Top 10 Rifiles - Discovery Channel

Tried searching and seemed like it wasn't posted before. Hopefully it hasn't. Although the clips are 3 years old....

My fave is the M1 Garand ever since I first saw it in Saving Private Ryan.

why are you surprised ? the AK is superior to the M16 in almost every category except precision.

Watched a documentary a while back about the comparison between the two during the Vietnam War, and I'll just coles note it real quick

-In the Vietnam war it was common for US soldiers to dump their M16's and take AK's off the dead bodies of enemy soldiers to use instead.
-The M16 was a much more precise weapon especially from long range but that was it's only advantage over the AK.
-The AK was a beast up close and had much bigger stopping power than the M16, and a lot of the fighting in Nam was very close combat type situations due to the Guerilla tactics the Nammers used...

Plus the fact that M16's were known for jamming and being unreliable when around water, AK's though not 100% waterproof were a workhorse which was a major advantage in the wet climate of the Nam jungles

Or just watch the videos that clearly explain why the ak47 is superior

ajax 06-13-2010 10:00 PM

The AK47 single handedly changed modern warfare. There was a story where sergeant or someone dug one out of the ground, cocked it and fired it to show his soldiers its durability. Incredibly cheap, easy to maintain and basically anyone can use it. Look what it did to the US in Vietnam and in Somalia.

This should have made the list:

My favorite AR in Modern Warfare 2 :D

DanHibiki 06-13-2010 10:10 PM

It's wierd how they can talk bout it's ease of use when these type of rifles aren't that different from eachother. load magazine here. cock-back here. pull trigger here.

I guess I won't really understand until I've tried them myself.

2damaxmr2 06-13-2010 10:53 PM

ACR is really overrated. It was delayed for so many years and not to the mention bushmaster fucks it up in the end. Tavor and fs2000 is superior since they are non restricted. (Well if you re-barrel the fs2000)

AzNightmare 06-13-2010 11:14 PM

lol, watching these videos makes me want to play CoD games again.

twitchyzero 06-14-2010 10:24 AM

they could've added some sniper rifles to the list
i like how majority of us are basing our opinions on video games :lol

_Hotsauce_ 06-14-2010 10:49 AM

I like the FAL

2damaxmr2 06-14-2010 11:03 AM

FAL was a very popular rifle in Canada before they banned it. Thanks to the bill C-68.

hal0g0dv2 06-14-2010 11:36 AM

Though I'm not contesting AK-47 superiority as I agree, the above just seems like a war story exaggeration to me.

Although I'm sure there are vets who've done it, I doubt it was common. Why would a soldier dump his rifle over an AK-47 when all your spare ammo is on M-16 rounds. Not to mention, all your comrades ammos that you can borrow as well.

Doesn't make sense dumping your M16 + ammo for an AK47 + partially spent clip. Unless you mean they still can take the time to search bodies for additional clips as well?

2damaxmr2 06-14-2010 01:52 PM

DI system that is used by the M16 series are not as reliable as the long stroke piston design as the Kalashnikov. When M16A1 was first issued to the troops in Vietnam it was not issued with cleaning kit. Early 5.56x45 was dirty ( Carbon build up in DI system = failure)

The rifle has nothing to do with the penetration. 5.56mm is not the best for that rule. All 5.56mm rifles has similar problem another reason 6.8mm is superior in long range engagement.

belka 06-14-2010 03:23 PM

No C7? It's pretty much an improvement over the M16 imo.
