Reputable transmission shops in town?

My Ranger's transmission threw a code the other day (O/D light started blinking after going up the Malahat) and seemed like the transmission would no longer go into O/D.

The flashing light went away after shutting the engine off, and everything seems normal now but I want to get things checked out anyways, and fix any potential problems before they become serious and even more expensive.

Who do you guys recommend in town?

I don't care about cost, just quality of work and honesty (IE: Don't want a shop that will just tell me I need a rebuild if I may not actually need one).

I went to Victoria Automatic Transmission (Dupplin St location) about 18 months ago to have my transmission fluid changed. I was very impressed with the customer service and professionalism. The shop was also nice and clean, which is always a bonus.

The procedure itself was expensive, but that's because they had to buy the fluid directly from BMW. Their labour rates were competitive.

Anyway, not sure if that's the sort of recommendation you were looking for, as I can't speak to their actual quality of work... but I was very impressed with their customer service and professionalism.

Since your car is driveable, it wouldn't hurt to get two different shops to look at it (in other words, do a bit of comparison shopping). I would imagine any good shop would be willing to read the codes and do a quick diagnosis for free.

Just an FYI this is the Vancouver Island section (just to confirm since you're new to the site and your info says Burnaby)

Look at the positive repair shop experience in the maintenance thread.

I had good experiences with Pacific Driveline on 6941 E. Hastings street (Near SFU).

Very honest brothers than own the shop.
