i'm surprised MTL still has faith in price. every time i watched him in net, he either stunk it up or got pulled.

i wonder how much he paid GM Place for that hole he punched into our wall :D

DuhDang 06-17-2010 07:53 PM

Pierre Gauthier probably lost a bet to St Louis GM lol

Good choice by the Habs. People seem to think Halak was the sole reason the Habs got so far, it wasn't. The system they played allowed him to see almost every shot directly, and if he didn't then Hal Gill or another d-men would block the shot. He played great but besides that game 7 agaisnt Washington he wasn't a god as some put him out to be.

My prediction for Halak is he's going to have a similar career as a Theordore, smallish goalie who had 1-2 great seasons but eventually turns out to be average. Difference here is Montreal traded him before his value went down.

However, I doubt MTL will be playing the same system that will have Halak's defensemens absorbing 50 shots per game in an 82 game spread when they already couldn't handle the wear & tear in a shorterened tournament format. This is probably what factored in the Halak deal as I doubt they'll be using the same system and will be looking at a different direction instead.

I agree one of the biggest reasons Halak thrived was because of the system Jacques Martin employed in the playoffs. But another big reason was Halak's play under pressure. He was calm and seemed to always rise to the occasion, especially during the elimination games when the whole city was counting on him.

Price just seems to be rattled by all the media and pressure in Montreal to me. Even throughout the regular season, Price had plenty of chances to take the No.1 spot but could never do it. I just thought it'd be better for his career to get a fresh start in a different city where he could really prove himself without all that media pressure in Montreal.

Add to the pressure is that Price loves to party, perhaps too much and in a city where he is treated like a god, that is not a good thing for his career. From what I know, the ego has been really getting to his head and he hasn't really been focused on hockey. Everytime he goes out to party, he is mobbed, pictures taken and scrutinized by the media, I really think the best thing for Price was to be traded to a non hockey market without all the media pressure and where fans aren't constantly hounding you and treating you like a god.

Kovalchuk interested in Leafs... Leafs not interested in Kovalchuk
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle1606151/

Quote:

What’s interesting about the Kovalchuk talk is that I’ve been told pretty definitively that the Leafs were among the teams he was interested in. While the player (who is under contract to the Devils until July 1) and his camp remain quiet on all this, the general feeling around the league is that Toronto was at least among the teams in the running.
Quote:

Yesterday, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun had a quote from Leafs GM Brian Burke basically squashing any speculation his team would be in the mix for Kovalchuk, saying simply: “We're not going to be involved in that race.”

I hope the posturing of BB is just an illusion in order to sign him. I seem to recall BB would say one thing and do the opposite when he was in Van so maybe there is hope he will pull it off. He would need to move some salary (Grabovski - trade him with Kabs for a solid top 6 forward), bury Finger in the AHL, but he would have the room. Kovy working with Kessel and possibly centered by Kadri (the KKK line) - what a scoring threat that would be.
