Good lakes to kayak in...

Hey anyone know of any good lakes to kayak in?
Ive been to only buntzen lake which is really nice, but looking for another lake. I'm sick of the cops sitting and checking everyone for liquor...I just bought a 2 person inflatable kayak and its soo much fun on the lakes to just hang out and blaze.
Anyways looking for some other places to go beside the ocean. I dont think my kayak can handle the waves plus, fighting againts currents isnt meant for my kayak. No bad for $300 for watersports. Anyone else have inflatable kayaks??? Where to go?

If your looking for some good fun on the water i suggest getting a kayak good exercise and lots of fun in the water. Plus you can fit 4 kayaks in your trunk.

If you want a smaller lake, check out http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=19034+Mcmyn+Rd,+Pitt+Meadows,+Greater+Vancouver+Regional+District,+British+Columbia+V3Y+2J2,+Canada&ll=49.321178,-122.326283&spn=0.011049,0.027466&t=h&z=15, off the Stave Lake forestry road (technically it's called Florence Lake FSR, but more people know "Stave Lake"). At the SW corner of the lake, you can see a gravel pit just off the road - there's a short trail from there to the lake with a number of impromptu camping spots - taller 4x4s should be able to make it all the way in.

For bigger lakes... Alouette, Stave, Pitt...

If you want to combine the kayaking with a nice hike, go to the parking lot at Pitt Lake, by the canoe rental place... you can cross Pitt River, then paddle up Widgeon Creek to the campground (45 mins to 1.5hr), where you'll find the trailhead for the trail to Widgeon Falls and Widgeon Lake. If you're only going to the falls, be sure to take the "riverside" trail - it's rougher than continuing up the "road", but it's a really spectacular hike. Good info here: http://www.trailpeak.com/trail-Widge...ncouver-BC-460

This is what mine looks like. Made by Advanced Elements.Paid $300 off craigslist came with paddles, pump, jackets, patch kit and TRAVEL BAG!!!!. This unit acctually had all good reviews online.
They usually go for $500+ for the kayak only. So i either recommend buying on craigslist. Sometimes costco has the whole package for $350+. I saw a couple barely used 1 man kayaks with everything on craigslist for $175 each. Looks like a good deal..
The only difference between these kayaks and the real macoy is that these are a little slower but not by much. Also they say they are okay on ocean waters but I find that because they are a lil slower its harder to cut through the water. Especially when you going against the waved which is the reason why i'm sticking to lakes. BTW this also fits our weiner dog aswell. My buddy always brings his pug too and both have life jackets.

What kind of range are you wanting to stay within? I could suggest a bunch in the Interior... try doing the full Bowron Lakes circle trip

Is it normal to just rent a kayak and try it out yourself? I have kayaked ONCE in high school, and wanted to rent one out again and just try it out again.... will they help you get the kayak in the water and guide you and such, or do you just figure it out on your own?

Honestly there really isnt much to it.. Most rental places have the kayaks by the water or near it on racks. They usually help you carry to the water if you really cant carry less than 30 pounds of plastic. It is normal to rent I just like the water so i bought a cheap one.. Obviously the rentals are somewhat better than mine. When kayaking just put the padles in the water and go, you will figure out the technique when you get going.

Kayak by far is better, faster and more fun. Canoe your need 2 people for sure and have to work together to get it going especially for beginners. Kayak you just hop in and go. Canoe you have to work together or else you will just be doing circles.. I guarantee if you canoe and kayak the same day you wont leave that kayak. Plus when going with buddies there always the factor of tipping the boat. Kayak you cant try to stand so its not going to happen. Unless you hit a huge wave then your SOL which is why I stick to lakes.

thanks man... but what if i'm going with a buddy. the two of us are not very familiar with either. so if it's 2 people on either a kayak or canoe, you'd suggest one kayak for 2 people is more fun too?

Not really its better to have two 1 man kayaks. More fun and you get to do what you want..Even have a race... I only got a double cause I didnt want to spend the other $200 and I dont see my GF being able to handle long trips by herself cause we always blaze and this makes her tired.... Also becuase we bring our dog aswell so theres a lil more room.. Honestly you dont need to be familiar with the sport the hardest part would only be getting in the boat itself but honestly its really super easy to kayak. Trust me you can do some distance with them.. Try renting @ buntzen... Besides when you rent the guy will tell you all the secrets, that I dont know...
