| need some help building a computer
i would have taken suggestions from the other thread but it seems like everyone on there is trying to build a gaming computer. I have a ps3 and xbox360 for the games and even those just collect dust. so I want to try out windows 7 and my computers pretty damn slow now (intel core2 1.8ghz with 2 gigs of ram running vista)
what I want from a computer is this:
1) run 2 24" monitors at a high resolution to view my charts
2) it'll be running 24/7 so I want it to be quiet. I probably need some good fans because I stuff the computer into a cupboard type of thing so it can't be seen.
3) i want it to be extremely quick. for example my trading platform crashes I click on it to reopen and its up and running as quick as I can click vs. waiting 1 minute while the computer makes stupid noises 
4) I need hdmi out so I can connect it to the tv in my room and stream videos from it
and finally which version of windows 7 should I buy?
Last time I built my own computer was like 2 years ago and I picked up everything from ncix.

when u build ur own computer, u want to build a good one otherwise it really is cheaper and more convenient to go with brand name premade pcs
to address your issues now
1) 24"(2) monitors at 1080p..you need the monitors capable of that resolution and you'll need a good video card..250$+
2) you'll have a hard time with the acoustics..trying to run a cool and quiet system but fast also. look for quiet fans maybe liquid cooling. maybe use soundproof insulations
3) it's gonna cost a lot because u want fast and quiet
4) most video cards support hdmi output and even dual hdmi outputs not really an issue these days
just grab home edition windows 7. i really dont see the need for those extras....most great software is free anyways
I just built a computer today and it's loud as hell with like 6fans running

you should use a monitor with (wide res)x 1200.

If you have money go for SSD, you wont be dissapointed.
-Much faster
-Much quieter

Cpu Brand preference is really up to you. I personally like intels more than AMD because i didn't have such a good experience with AMD.
For Intel, a I5 is more than enough power, and stability is what you want.
For AMD, http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...D&promoid=1016 this one should fit your bill. Its not expensive too.
For Ram, you should have at least 4GB on a 64bit windows 7 ultimate. (torrent or legit won't really matter thats up to you.) If you're using 32bit, that 4GB wont even come to use. And since you seem like you're going to do a lot of heavy video processing and worksheets, ram is an essential.
Right now, Gskill is the bang for the Buck. http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...l&promoid=1016 is what i would choose if i have money to blow.
For graphics card, i would choose a ATI card simply because they are more bang for a buck now http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...X&promoid=1016. has HDMI and will last you for at least 2-3 years.

For quietness, you want a case that was some sound padding in it If you really want it to be quiet. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=37119&...ufacture=Antec This case is a beauty. Very quiet. I have it in my room and my room DBM is at 30-40. It would be even more quieter if you switched out the case fans, use some noctura fans and get an aftermarket cooler so you can set the speed of the fan inside for your CPU. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=26047&...e=COOLERMASTER A more high end case. Padding inside, lots of room to work with. the negative part is it is freaking heavy and huge. http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...c&promoid=1016
Broke and don't need that much space? use this case. IF you switch the fans, use a voltage modifier for the cpu fan, this case is beasttt. Make sure you have sufficient cooling. and You can go to superstore or canadian tire to buy some of those air duct filters. Tape it on the side holes and fan holes so you have zero dust to none in the computer case since this one has no filters itself.
If you choose water cooling (the quietest out of all choices, dont get the premade ones. Carefully pick your water blocks, your tubings, radiator, pump.) this should range around 300-400 dollars. Do homework before you choose this step because a spillage is the last thing you want.

Go SSD and a standard HD for storage. Also go with a good monitor non TNT panel because some of these cheap monitors have crap viewing angles.

don't need to listen to bs advice others are giving. you don't need liquid cooling for a quiet system. Im using the above setup at my office and running stock intel fan plus a cheaper coolermaster case, and I cant hear anything from it. so by upgrading the cpu heatsink plus a better case with sound insulation, its gonna be quiet enough already.
plus this system isnt too expensive anyways....

If you want it quiet make sure you pick up a DECENT CASE. The case can make a huge difference to the amount of noise your computer makes.
Also look into replacing the fans that come on the case with Noctura fans. The last big build I did for my buddy ($4500), we bought a 200$ case with sound deadening and replaced the stocker fans with Noctura ones.
It was absolutely silent while idling/internet browsing..actually as long as he wasn't playing games.

Okay so I took some advice from all of the posts and put this together.
As far as the heatsink goes is there a need to upgrade if I'm not going to be overclocking? if so which fans should I get with the thermalright ultra 120 heatsink?
Will be getting 2x 24" dell.

if your PS3 is on the network, just use PS3 Media Server to stream movies to it, I find that a lot easier than moving my computer over and hooking it up.
also keep it might that 7 will run a lot faster/smoother than Vista.

No need of an I7 CPU. An I5 or I3 CPU will be plenty fast for what you are doing. From your list of parts It would look like your building a gaming comp. How important is up time for your computer? You might want to built some redundancy into your computer.
Also use pricebat.com and shopbot.com to find the losest price and then pricematch at NCIX.

plus, I don't think price is a concern anyways, saving a hundred bucks isn't gonna be a big deal.
If he's really into overclocking and gaming, then I'd suggest him to get the i7-875K.

no point of wasting money on those higher performing ram.
and you can go with the stock HSF first and see if its too loud, cuz within the P183 case, I doubt u'll hear anything, especially when its inside a cabinet.

if he just needs a six core processor, why not go for the new AMD phenom II x6 processors.
noticeably cheaper than the I7's unless budget/pricing is not an issue of course.
