Check Engine Light

I was hoping someone might be able to help me out...
My check engine line has gone off again. The last time it went on.. i went to a Honda dealer and they scanned it, coded PO302 (misfire cylinder 2) and PO171 (fuel metering too lean). They turned off the light and I've had it come on again, but then it turned off. Now its on again, so I was hoping someone might be able to help me out as to what I should do.

Thanks in advance!

Time to figure why cylinder 2 is misfiring. When was the last time the spark plugs were done? What honda is it? If its direct fire then you could have a bad coil pack as well or even a bad injector. Hence the lean condition and misfire.

When I received the codes, I had my plugs changed just weeks later..
I got the codes last year.. changed it.. then had the car parked for close to a year after another month of driving.
its a 98 honda civic.

I tried taking a look at it.... (assuming i was looking at the right part) and it didnt seem gunky or anything...... from what i could tell at least.

Anything else I should be looking for? Or recommendations for where to take my car in for a check? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You need to check the inside of the distributor, also the plug and wire. You need a continuity meter, or better a scope.

If you don't have the tools or the knowledge take it to one of the RevScene Sponsors.

well, i took it to rise and dropped it off there. within an hour or so, i received a call from akira telling me that it was my distributor cap, just as others mentioned in the forum. he also suggested what else might be giving the the error codes (bad injectors or even bad o2 sensors). i gave him the go-ahead to clean the injectors. got a quote on it and they began the work. turns out my injectors were basically dead, and so they installed new ones but the price didn't change much because he already quoted me so much (which i really appreciate them for doing)

in the end. the car is running a lot smoother now. sadly light came back on after 100km so the next step is to change the o2 sensors which will be done at Rise once again when i have a chance

Just curious, what kind of fuel do you use?

Holy, for fuel injectors to go bad, especially on a 98 Honda Civic, this is the first I've ever heard.

As impactX asked above, please post the where you buy your fuel and which grade (87/89/91 etc.)

^ now you make me scared ;o
um.... i dunno about the previous owner.. i'll assume probably just regular 87...
as for when i owned it. i used 89 for the first couple of fill ups. then did 91e ever since..... begining fill ups at save on foods for a couple of months, and eventually just switching to shell because of convenience...

pull the codes and see if it is the same codes that you've had previously, if its the same, you just wasted a bunch of money
did both codes set the lights or was one a history code? you should figure out why the vehicle is running lean, that could also be the cause of your misfire as well, sounds fishy to me that all 4 injectors happened to need replacing all at the same time, you dont hear of honda injectors needing replacement ever
