Consider yourself lucky man. I know someone who had hosted a Japanese high school student in Richmond. She was smoked by a C-Lai within 2 weeks of moving in, and was hurt quite badly.

Always take caution whether you are walking, driving, or biking. I have had to actively dodge shitty drivers many times in all three scenarios.

Don't judge that only the dangerous speeding drivers hit pedestrians.
I was driving one time, it was a really bright sunny day out, and there was a bus stopped 50m ahead of me, so all my attention was towards that bus merging back into my lane. Turns out there was a handicapped person on a wheelchair wearing all black, with black hair, was crossing under this big shade of a tree. I didn't see the person due to the light contrast until he? she? was right next to me. Sure knowing this board, u guys would be all over me, but sometimes things can't be helped.

If it wasn't a crosswalk, it's kinda their fault for crossing a busy street on a wheelchair dressed in all black with black hair under the shadow of a tree.
