Did i get a good deal on a 55" LCD? OK, walked into Future Shock and got the following.. lemme know if it works out to be a good deal: Philips 55" 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV (55PFL5505) $1389 (regular $1499) - he took off $110 to offset delivery/disposal tax/screen cleaning kit. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...5df0683b37en02 Monster Screen Cleaning kit $9.99 Dynex "EL CHEAPO" DvD player $15 (he tried to throw this in but couldn't..i'll end up returning it) 4yr FutureShop Onsite Warranty Parts & Labour Full Replacement Guarantee $299 (on a 55", i'll need some sort of piece of mind cuz it ain't gonna fit in a TL if i need to get it serviced) ...and some BOGUS disposal tax? $35 slapped it on a 12month payment plan via Future Shop card. total with tax. $1992. the Philips has a USB port so I think i can plug in a usb thumb drive and play divx movies off it.. have to test that. but other than that.. overall a good deal??? |
no philips is garbage dvd player and monster cables are usually free your gonna get assraped on interest with the fs card you should of bought a sony or samsung |
that's any normal deal .... 110 off a 4 year warranty is nothing any 4 yr warranty you get they can take 100 off with no problems and add his accessory numbers by adding that screen cleaning kit. Surprised he didn't get you the monster power bars and cables, I would threw that in for free hahaha... Quote:
for 12 month all you pay iirc is 99 dollar admin fee no interest yes a samsung/sony would be better but better for value prob not side note. if you want a good deal look for something ending with "1999.97" .97 is clearance .95 is gone when gone aka soon to be clearance you generally can get those at cost. We sold clearance tv to staff for dirt cheap. |
philips is a soso brand I would have chose a samsung, sony....... they seem to be better brands. |
Just say, "No" to extended warranties. They are a rip-off. Get a refund, and give me a thanks. I just made you $300 + taxes. |
and to add to the fact that usually, the usb ports r for updating firmware, not playing stuff from it. SOME tv's usb ports can play media tho, not all. |
^ and even if they can play media they can't play all format's |
Thanks for feedback. Sony/samsung are better No doubt but were not even close To Phillips pricepoint. It was a $70 admin Fee for 12 months which I will pay off in full By then. But it hasn't been delivered yet so I can still return it. Question: can i return It to any future shop even if it hasn't Been delivered yet? Posted via RS Mobile |
yes you can bring receipt back go back to the store that you went to and return or if you want say you got a better deal with no warranty at best buy and see what they'll do. Most of the time they return the warranty and give you some money back as well |
i think thats a pretty bad deal. my Sony 52" inch 1080p hdtv was around 1,200 (with tax included). and you're brand is so so |

bought a 52 phillips 1080p about a year ago @ costco for 1299.. i returned it after a month and bought a smaller sharp aquos .. |
Philips makes one thing, and only one thing well. http://blogs.technet.com/blogfiles/m...%20Philips.jpg |
paying 2 grand for a Philips TV and a DVD player is a ripoff. Return everything and do so research before you buy anything. |
lcd's are so cheap now adays that you could probably get 60" sony for that price. |
One of the best TV's out there for $1399 http://forums.redflagdeals.com/fs-pa...1399-a-908342/ http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...90965d447fen02 |
:werd: you should return that phillips and fork a bit more and get that ^ |
Update I went back to FS after seeing the Canada day price on that Phillips At 1399 so my overall savings was A mere 10bux. So at the end of it all They knock off another 100 bucks To bring it down to $1289.99 for The tv. Doubt I could get a 55" LCD at 240hz for that. So I may keep It. Posted via RS Mobile |
I agree with everyone else..Phillips is pretty much crap... You're better off with a Samsung...and pay a tad more... Even at your new price, its still a waste of money...whats the point of getting such a big tv if its gonna suck? just get something a little smaller... I know that for Samsung (and probably for other brands too..just not familiar), when you buy one of their TV's you automatically get 1 year in home warranty...and if you pay with a Visa, you get a second year of in-home warranty through Visa. And lastly, like someone already said, you're gonna get raped on interest financing this stuff...you THINK its $2k for everything..but after all is said and done you'll probably end up paying a few extra hundred bucks on top at least... |
Re 12 months payplan. Aside from admin fee of 70 there Is no interest as long as you pay It off within the 12 months Note that this Phillips uses a Samsung panel also. Posted via RS Mobile |
the 70$ admin fee IS interest. they just named it another way charged in another way to make you feel better. :) think about what you bought :P and then what's 70$ on that..it's like 5-6% interest |
