jackmeister 06-30-2010 12:11 PM

Did you pull that outta your ass or what? I know nurses that work 6 days a week 12 hour grueling shifts and they don't break 120k. You try working in that kind of environment and see if you're willing to have that pay. If you don't know jack then stfu.

in an ideal or close to ideal world, i'd be cheering for HST cuz it makes sense. But with the corrupted government and the likes of Campbell, we just know that we'll get shafted.

twitchyzero 06-30-2010 03:02 PM

why are people acting so surprised
it's the liberals after all.

LemonT 06-30-2010 03:08 PM

what I read was the conservatives also has a part in this HST business, being that Stephan Harper secretly approves of the HST, and that he has some deal going on with our provincial government but he hasn't shown his POV, so no one has yet to point fingers at him.

BTW, I was also informed at work that any food item that cost lest then 5 dollars is tax free

So a regular-sized bag of chips is tax free? Makes no sense how they determine what is and isn't tax free...

skyxx 06-30-2010 03:39 PM

You guys blaming the Provincial government for this shit when in doubt it's the Federal government that's pushing it. BC and Ontario are basis for this "preview/test" run. In the near future all provinces will no doubt be pushing the HST as well.

yah it really doesn't make sense what is tax-free and whats not, i was just told that any food item under 5 dollars is tax exempt, cuz mcdonalds is releasing a bacon deluxe sandwich tmr as a meal for 4.99 so it's tax exempt

The Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe has been available since Tuesday at least... and the two locations I went to has it for $1.69 for the sandwich and $4.69 for the combo, I think...

in an ideal or close to ideal world..there shouldn't be any taxes... taxes in general create dead-weight loss in the economy..

As much as I hate to say it, he's right. Check the public sector salaries thread and see that there were some nurses who made $200k plus.

Check your math. Any RN that works 12hr shifts, 6 days a week like you say will easily break $100k. If they do 12hr shifts and work more than 4 days in a row, that's considered OT for day 5 and day 6 @ 2x pay.

Are nurses an important part of healthcare? Yes. Did they fuck over BC by going on strike and use their important status to get themselves a ridiculous amount of pay, especially when it comes to "overtime"? Yes. You can't argue that, so don't bother.

No. They are saying they are "helping" small businesses but it won't.

Directly from the government's HST site:

Quote:

The following are exempt from the B.C. provincial portion of sales tax.

* Gasoline, ethanol, diesel and bio-diesel when used in motor vehicles as well as locomotive fuel used for trains, marine diesel used for boats, and aviation fuel and jet fuel used for aircraft.

skyxx 06-30-2010 11:20 PM

^ People don't bother reading up on the Government websites and they just go by people who give improper information. :/
