Need opinion on a first car

Hi everyone,

I signed up for REVscene because I heard it was the best forum for automative talk in the city.

I'm currently buying my first car ever and I'm kind of set on getting a G35 sedan. I want a car that's stylish but yet practical.

I've found some buys locally that seem like a good deal cost wise, but before I sink the cash into them I wanted to know what everyone here things of them in terms of reliability and resale value (I don't wanna get screwed over on my first car ).

If you have any thoughts on that I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks.

We all know even if they cant really afford it they buy it for status

no matter which car you choose, get it inspected by an independent mechanic/expert.
g35 is a nice car. got a v6 so gas prices may be an issue depending on your budget. same with insurance too!

I'd stay away from luxury and get a basic car. You want low maintenance fees , and high reliability.

I'd look at Honda / Toyota sedan. Reliable, economical, practical.

>my assumptions.
- you are paying for the car + associated costs
- you are a student (it says UBC), you are almost graduating (you joined in 2007 , but you buy a car in 2010)

Dont listen to this guy, being too low has tainted his mind.
IF you can afford the gas and maintenance, I say go for it if its what you really want.

Do the research before you buy...get a quote on insurance first and see if your comfortable paying that amount (since its your first car, and a luxury car at that its probably going to be high)...also like the others said gas is gonna rape you, especially premium. Take into account the maintenance charges....its going to be more expensive than other cars like honda etc. (unless you can do your own maintenance) but if you can afford it (gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.) then by all means go for it and enjoy the car

i absolutely agree. not to mention the G's pack a lot of power for a new driver and it is also rwd. knowing out weather, rwd would be less practical and would be more challenging to drive than a fwd or awd car. i would stick with a honda civic or a toyota matrix for a first car, regardless of how much cash the owner has. once you get more comfy with driving, then trade your car in for the one you want. since you are more prone to get into an accident (not saying that I want you to get into one) as a new driver, save the nicer cars for when you are a more competent driver.
