| Puppy Murder!
I have 3 dogs and one of them had a baby.. its been about 2-3weeks and out of no where one of my other dogs (same breed) Decided to go ape shit on the baby and bite it to death..
Anyone know why this would be? The odd part is the dog that bite it is usually pretty passive and never bites..

I think this is normal especially if one dog did not give birth to the dogs and if this is the first litter of pups. I don't know the full explanation to this but when I had rabbits, they did the same.

i think i may well be the same reason why lions kill cubs that don't belong to them once they take over a pride of female.
To make sure as many of his offspring survive and to try to lessen every other males' chance at spreading their genes.

To the OP this is why when a dog has a litter it is a good idea to seperate the mother and litter from any other dogs. It does not make a difference whether it is the same breed. I'm surprised that the mom didn't step in though. Usually they are very protective and don't like having other dogs around. sometimes if they are feeling like they aren't comfortable will kill their own off-spring.

On topic tho I've witnessed similar behavior from one of my own dogs. She was a rescue dog and we were unaware she was pregoes at the time. She birthed a litter of six and killed four of them. I never understood why and was quite horrified she did it. The other two puppies were unharmed but one did die a couple weeks later and we found out it wasn't getting enough nourishment from her milk.

You need to put the alpha dog aside and have him watch you humping the other puppies. Posted via RS Mobile |

No, he's serious. You should definitely go hump your dog to assert your dominance. Take your clothes off and do it if you really want to show him who's boss.

Dogs routinely 'jump' new pups into the pack. If other pack mates don't come to thier defense the pup or the pup is unable to defend itself often is critically injured/killed, if it survives it won't be accepted into the group and will be attacked again if they're kept together.
This is normal canine behavior if you have enough of them to form a pack unit.
This is particularly true with shepherds and huskies.
