Exactly! For the other people who think you are tipping more now then sorry to break the news but that means you've always been tipping on total amount which means you've always been tipping too much suckas.

AzNightmare 07-12-2010 05:55 PM

some people insist on tipping 15% or maybe even 20%.
It's kind of funny, because they think they're all hotshit when they brag about tipping that much...
When I just think they're fools that are wasting money.

lol

I can see that OP is on the other side with a calculator trying to see if you guys got your math correct.

How about people tipping 15%+ because the service was good? I'm sure a lot of folks in the service industry make their survival on decent tips. Does someone need to post that scene from Reservoir Dogs, again?

Sorry for keeping this OT, but this thread was derailed long ago.

for example, a $10,000+GST/PST equipment used to have net cost of $10,700 (10K+PST), after HST, their net cost is only $10,000 (7% less), since GST&HST are refundable for businesses.

Its really not that much lower for restaurants, as they were already saving taxes on food and alcohol items, the main expenses.

Its going to hurt the industry for a bit, until people forget about this crap in a few months.

I should, I didn't account for the lack of intelligence on RS :D

Prices will NEVER drop in BC.

Now I don't know if this is really on topic but I went to Pho Hoa out of desperation the other day and when I went to pay it was $8.96 for 1 bowl of large Tai Bo Vien. In my mind I was like holy crap did you guys raise your prices on top of HST or what? Even the most expensive pho for a large is usually like $6something maybe $7 flat.

I guess places that never charged GST before are now charging HST so an $8 bowl of pho (used to be $8 flat no tax) will now be $8.96 with HST?

That's what happened at the pho places I go to.

johny 07-12-2010 09:14 PM

went to a jap place in cresent beach couple days ago and they lowered the the prices 7% so the final prices stay the same... one win for them. everyone else fails

Not the full GST amount is refunded. Depends if the business profited, broke even or filed a loss to CRA. Now, as for HST, gonna have to wait till tax season to know that.

Orange Julius @ Richmond center...where I work

small orange julius (pre-HST) $3.72 x 1.05 = $3.90

small orange julius (HST): it should be $3.72 x 1.12 = $4.1664 but its now
$3.75 x 1.12 = $4.20.

oh yeah..my manager is asian..so yeah. :p

Chinese food at UBC village:

before
2 items: $5.50

after
2 items: $6.25

IMO, the HST was not only for a tax increase, but as well as an increase in prices in general. It was the perfect way for businesses to increase their product prices without having the customers bitching.

I cut down on all overpriced outside food now. $6 for a cooked hot dog after tax? $5 for a small little lunch sandwich that doesn't make you full? lol...
If businesses raise their prices to take advantage of us customers, that just makes me not buy from them.
I make my food from scratch now. Buy flour to make bread, no pathetic HST.

orange7 07-13-2010 12:01 AM

*edit nvm..

me need to buy flour more often

I too have cut down on eating overpriced small portion food found outside.

However, I don't get what you mean by "buy flour = no pathetic HST."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is HST on the flour that you buy at any local supermarket.

There's no HST on Flour....or Bread.

vash13 07-13-2010 12:32 AM

^^ I believe there is HST on bread that has chocolate or other stuff on it.

SilverBlitz 07-13-2010 12:40 AM

saw this on someones facebook

gst + pst + hst

Not really racist! 07-13-2010 12:48 AM

^ wtf?

isnt that liek 24% then

w00tgasm 07-13-2010 01:02 AM

It's pro-rated I think. The monthly bill doesn't go from the first to the last day of each month, it overlaps a bit.

Anjew 07-13-2010 02:40 AM

i get delivery from hon's on robson alot and i noticed the price went up as well + hst. i have the 2 menu's side by side and the base prices went up.

i think orange 7 is right about
