help! 2 wasp nests in my backyard! :(

so just the other day i found out that there's 2 wasp nests in my backyard.
hopefully they're not preparing for war against each other and using my backyard as the battlefield.

but anyways, if any of you have dealt with these kinda things, how'd you get rid of it? please no "JACKASS" stunts, and i'm only planning to call an exterminator as my last resort.

i heard that city of vancouver has people who can come remove it free of charge, but i gave them a call and they said that's only for honeybees and not wasps! >_<

here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure
right there in the middle...do you see it?

here's a bit closer.

here's the other one. this one's just under my deck's roof.

Exterminator may cost you a bit of money..
I mean since its out in the open and not in the cracks of your house (I had a nest in between my floor boards)

You would probably save a bit of money just going to homedepot and buying a couple of cans of wasp control/killing stuff

just bundle yourself really well (goggles, gloves, jacket, ski mask (?))before you spray the nests with foam, and maybe spray some insect repellent on yourself first. You could also hang replica paper wasp nests around to try and deter them, but at this stage I don't think it would work. These are mere suggestions though, I've never had wasp nests of this size in my yard.

+1 for homedepot idea.

OP's situation reminds me of this from awhile ago

What you can do is get those fake wasp nests which keep the wasps from making the nests. I have one and it works wicked. Right now just go to home depot and you can get some wasp spray. The question I have is why did you let them get that large, don't you go in your back yard?

Chemical warfare is the way to go. The Home Depot wasp spray is awesome, it kills those buggers on contact.

i was just about to say that....

the wd40 trick is the most retarded recommendation i have ever heard.....how is wd40 + fire a good combo for house frames and tress? =.="

anyways, like other ppl mentioned, try to armor yourself and spray those foam thingy into the nests....they have the nozzle and let u stick it right into the nest without getting to close to them.

those foams contain poison and once u start from the inside of the nest and spray out, it pretty much just block all the exits and wasps will be trapped inside (well of course there will be a few that escape...thats why u gotta armor urself). those that survive would probably be flying around the nest for a day or so.....so feel free to give it another spray the nxt day to seal the deal.

and op...u actually do want those two wasps to use ur backyard as battle field....so this means one less nest to deal with

but yea it will never happen as wasps/bees like to keep distances for another nests as they have territories (this explains why u have 2 nests kinda far apart). so once u get rid of those nests, hang those fake ones up and u should be good (mind u if you have a big house, u might need 2-3 around the house.....) like i mentioned earlier, wasps have territories and those fake nests only cover a certain amount of area (check the packaging and it should say)

good luck

Do the foam thing dressed in thick clothing but do it with a friend and have him spraying the bee/wasp killer at the same time killing the bastards that escape and attack.

Smoke'em out!

Then while those suckers are sleeping, ignite the sucker.

For your the one on your house, I suggest letting the exterminator do that. It'll likely set you back 120? or so.

We had a similar wasp problem on our patio last year. Being too cheap to hire an exterminator and having too much free time, I would spend a few minutes a day (a few times a day) vacuuming them as they flew out/in. Then I'd leave the vaccuum cleaner outside, seal the hose with a plastic bag + elastic, and let 'em bake in the sun. After a couple of weeks or so the colony went kaput; the queen couldn't pop out enough replacement wasps. They haven't come back since.

You want to do this during the day as they're the most active. More traffic = more vacuumed bees.

Depending on how armored up you get, you'll be pretty safe.

I've gone with the crazy method.

I've just taken a broom stick, hoe or rake and knocked the whole nest onto my grassy lawn.

Proceed to smash them completely open. And have your fun with a tennis racket.

If I had TWO nests like you, I'd knock them both into the middle of my lawn, smash them open, head back inside, and watch the ensuing fight.
