I don't really know why I said that, I don't have a lot of experience with the iphone :lol

But based on what people say, it is pretty slow. Especially when you try to multitask with it. If a phone can't multitask, I don't see how it's worth having

ecsw 07-19-2010 11:14 AM

crap, I just realized none of the Android will support AdHoc wireless AP like my e71 with joikuspot unless it's rooted. :(

!MiKrofT 07-19-2010 12:56 PM

Yeah unless it has Froyo installed then you'll need to root to tether.

I think u may misunderstand me....

I don't think Froyo supports AdHoc either. It's still in Andriod's open issue.
I asked my friend who works in HTC and he told me both Android and WM don't and won't support AdHoc Access Point.... Only way is to root it and modify the wlan ini file....

I am tethering from my E71..... both my ipad and my n900 can join Adhoc no problem, but A2.1 and 1.6 wont.

SkinnyPupp 07-19-2010 09:11 PM

Just use the built in tethering in 2.2

Or root it, it's not like it's hard to do. I haven't had the need to do so, but many people do, and if you want a specific type of wifi networking that isn't supported by default, you do too ;)

Doesnt rooting void the warranty?
Depending on your phone i'd totally wait for the Froyo update.

SkinnyPupp 07-19-2010 11:20 PM

If you need to send it back for warranty, unroot it

root it then :) I have wireless tether for both BT and wifi. Just installed a free app from the Market. My laptop connects to it just like any other wifi device.

ecsw 07-22-2010 04:00 PM

^ oh well, I have enough gadget with wireless and one less connect to my E71 wifi is ok la. lol.

What's the available memory for apps? I only have like 10 different small games and all and already running low on memory?

I also tried yxplayer on it and it doesn't seem to be playing avi as smooth as X10. Maybe it's just my phone.... can someone take a picture of their software page for me? I want to compare the number a bit... Thanks in advance. :)

!MiKrofT 07-22-2010 04:41 PM

Hmm yxplayer should be fine on 1ghz. You can also try rockplayer. Anything without 2.2 will be limited to installing apps on the phone. I'm guessing there's around 100mb or so of free space? Skinnypup can tell ya. Only alternative is to go with things like apps2sd or memhack to get more space.

ecsw 07-22-2010 04:59 PM

^ strange yxplayer is lagging on my Desire but does fine on X10.
I just found Rockplayer and it's unbelivible smooth. It also bookmark every video file just like iPod Video. Great, I might just buy it for my Desire. :)

I only have under 30mb free after all programs installed. it could be my Desire doesnt come with official firmware I guess. :p

SkinnyPupp 07-22-2010 08:50 PM

I'm down to 21MB on mine, but I have some junk to remove :)

Strzelec 07-22-2010 09:07 PM

I'm wondering if the NA Desire will be rootable.
I'm assuming its going to be running the same parts/os as the EU version, but who knows since they changed the screen to SLCD, might have changed something else.

Apparently the stores are also getting the demo units for anyone else that cares. Looking like a first week of august launch is very likely.

!MiKrofT 07-22-2010 10:45 PM

Should be rootable. Without apps2sd on my milestone i had 19mb free. Afterwards 186mb free

That's impressive. Maybe I should just root it for the hack of it.

What's the site that u usually read about information for desire? Thanks.

Strzelec 08-01-2010 12:11 PM

I dont think there is one specifically for the desire (I'm probably wrong here), but there are tons of general android sites. XDA, phandroid, etc.

SkinnyPupp 08-01-2010 05:23 PM

I go to two Desire forums:

http://desire.modaco.com

XDA's Desire section

Any word yet on launch date? I'm tired of using a first gen smartphone; looking forward to something I don't have to neuter to use!

And on a related note: because they probably won't just sell the phone without anything else, which telus or telus-affiliated store will sell a pay-as-you-go sim for the cheapest?

Well it was speculated yesterday because it was the start of the new quarter. Then there were reports that places like best buy/future shop had trucks coming in last night, and they would be available as early as today. By the looks of it, its either going to be the 5th as originally speculated, or the 6th to compete with the Galaxy on bell.

--Update
Saw ads on TV for the Desire + bus ads. I'm kind of assuming launch is very imminent (hoping its tomorrow)

c3m 08-05-2010 10:40 AM

Looks like Telus is holding on to the Desire to release with Roger's Galaxy S on the same day (tomorrow?).

CP.AR 08-05-2010 12:41 PM

^ what? Rogers Galaxy S TOMORROW? I thought it was only Bell
