Help in finding a Wedding Photographer

Fellow RS members, any one you have experience with getting lifestyles wedding photos done in vancouver? There are so many out there, and I'm a photo noob and every photographer says they can adapt to the style we want to shoot.

Any recommendations you guys have used personally?

Matsuda 07-18-2010 10:35 AM

I recommend mananetwork http://www.mananetwork.net/

What's your budget?

BlackZRoadster 07-18-2010 11:19 AM

^ i think it all depends on the "package" , because sometimes its all digital on a dvd, wheras sometimes they give you a number of prints and stuff.

i hope around 3,000
i dunno if thats going to be to cheap, but after getting rings , theres not too much left

Inaii 07-18-2010 11:27 AM

I would definitely recommend Mananetwork as well. His work is awesome.

RS members:
Three Sixty - http://threesixtyphoto.com/
Mananetwork - www.mananetwork.net

Other good Vancouver wedding photogs I know/worked with:
Jeannie Ow <--- she's great with people, very bubbly personality - http://www.studiojeanie.com/
Alana Couch - http://www.alanacouch.com/index2.php
Gucio Photography <---- run by Anna & Kasia, they're fairly new, but they're good - http://www.guciophotography.com/main.php
Pete Brennan <---really nice guy I'm second shooting for him for a few weddings this year - http://www.oneearthphotography.com/
Amber Hughes - http://amberhughes.ca/
Tobyn Ross - http://www.tobynrossphotography.com/...FSE1gwod91cNiQ
Hee Creations <---they make great albums - http://www.hee.ca/
Angela Hubbard - http://www.hubbardphotography.com/va...tographer.html
Chris & Lynn Jaksa - http://www.chrispluslynn.com/
Jamie Delaine - She's really young & just started out, but I think she's pretty good - http://www.jamiedelaine.com/
Brian Noppe - well established, one of the old guard in Vancouver - http://www.noppephoto.com/
Lara Hildebrandt <---- I've second shot for her, and she works with people well - http://www.greysquarephoto.com/
Camille Fortin Bensler and Chadwick Bensler - http://www.jonetsuphotography.com/
Melia Sorenson - http://www.lucida-photography.com

The following two are high-end, but worth checking out.
Jana Vackova - Fucking brilliant photographer, works almost exclusively with film - she will even use a Holga! I originally did not include her in the list, as I think she occupies the higher end of the Vancouver market. My friend hired her and can't stop raving about her. My friend's wedding is featured in "Roll Two" on the website. - http://www.janavackovaphotography.com
Lori Miles - http://www.sweetpeaphotography.com/index.php

No problem. I just edited the list, as I remembered some more photographers.

Of course they'll say that - they want the business. I think it's better for you to find the photographer whose style suits you instead of asking someone to adapt/adjust, as that would be un-natural. Everyone has their own style, and to try a style that is totally foreign to them will fail in the heat of the moment of a wedding shoot. They'll just fall back to their own shooting style.

I would go for Chris Loh...He was hired to photogragh Prince Charles the last time he was in town...he is flown all over the world to do weddings.. He is awesome and reasonable!!
Check him out at: chrislohphotography.com You will not be disappointed!

jbsali 07-18-2010 02:55 PM

keitaro 07-18-2010 05:55 PM

Sorry if you're going to follow up with something this huge, please provide an awesome win source. He's got two+ years under his belt, unless he's all buddy buddy with him.

Not judging by his photography skills cause he does a decent job, but not Prince Charles status uber amazing work when his packages only start at $1900. Prince Charles would lean quicker towards Chris+Lynn, but even they aren't his cup of tea. I'd say if someone had to do his wedding, I'd be Jonas Peterson (Australian Photographer)

Jeannie Ow was ok. We went to meet her after seeing her brothers shots. Jeff Ow. The demo she showed was like a copy of Jeff's. At times some of the shots were even the same. She did follow in her brother's footsteps in getting into photography. I hope she's gotten more comfortable with less imitation. I do agree that she has a great personality and definitely affordable but it just wasn't right for us.

Here's her brothers site: http://www.stu-di-o.com/nice/site.html

When did you meet her?

Since they shoot together on occasion, it would make sense that some shots overlap.

!MiKrofT 07-19-2010 01:03 PM

This was a few years ago back in early 2008. Mind you she's a great photographer but just didn't "fit" us at the time.

Yeah I realize they shot together but on some of the demos where she shot alone she used music/style and shots similar to Jeff's at the time. Things might have changed now as all photographers evolve.

Senna4ever 07-19-2010 04:46 PM

Yeah, you just have to find the one that fits your needs. Hell, some photography student that just graduated from Langara might be "the one" for somebody, and if that's the case, then go for it. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters. I wouldn't want clients to hire me if they weren't totally happy with my shooting style. I'd recommend other photographers - and I have.

!MiKrofT 07-20-2010 12:24 AM

Oh. Might as well post it up. This is the photographer we went with:

Good choice, I like their work

I had Glenn Spence do my wedding, we were really happy with him. He had incredible attention to detail, and a huge amount of patience. He stayed the WHOLE night too.

Instead of the regular wedding album, he actually got printed books made, this way we could give copies to people who wanted them. Of course, he also included all pictures he took on 2 DVD's worth of high quality JPEGS.

Yeah they were totally awesome to work with. Very flexible and got great shots from them. The husband/wife duo works well for them. One of them does pose shots and the other does candids.

::smurfie:: 07-26-2010 12:34 PM

I recommend Tom or Justin both did my wedding. Mananetwork and threesixtyphotography

Tom was amazing, professional and amazing!!!(Yes he was that amazing)

And justin had all my pictures ready so quickly I was surprised!
