Rogers will bill you VIDEO CALLING if you are on 3G. It will NOT count towards your DATA if you have a 500MB data plan. I am not sure if they will charge it as video calling if you have a 1GB data plan however. I would assume they would. They charged me $2 plus some change for 6 minutes worth of calling. My GF has the 6GB data plan and her video calls were counted as DATA over 3G. WiFi obviously is free. |

due to samsung super amoled stock levels. It's plausible, but unlikely. Yes, there's a vibrant shortage, but that's because Bell ordered X# and demand has been greater than X, let's call it Y# I doubt Samsung is going to not provide Roger's A# of ordered Captivates, just cause Bell demands more. Plus there's not shortage in the states. If you'd have me guess? I'd say it's cause Roger's coders are incompetent and are slow at coding all the Rogers branded bloatware they will be weighing down this phone with. |

For the brief time I owned the AT&T Captivate, there was a fair amount of bloatware. Worse of all, some of it turns itself on in the background without warning or notification. I'd put money down that AT&T wouldn't share, and Rogers is trying to recode/update their old stuff to make it more aggressive and take full advantage of the Captivate. enthusiast product "open" operating system They still want to lock us down. They just don't get it do they? *sigh* Take a read through this, Google's head android guy being interviewed. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2370464,00.asp |
There is also a shortage of Super AMOLED screens which is another reason for short supply right now on the Galaxy S. The Bell Galaxy is the i9000 which is also the international model so as they get produced they need to supply all the other carriers around the world that carry the same model. Due the demand, all the Bell dealers now refuse to sell the Galaxy S out of contract and only offer it to new activations now. Previously The Source, was selling them. Apparently Bell corporate stores are supposed to sell it to you out of contract if you want but they probably will make you sign up for at least 1 month of service. |

??? are the developers on XDA Dev on drugs or something? I thought rooting was a hard process... until I saw this for all (and potential) galaxy S users....happy rooting (takes 2 mouseclicks for download+extract and then 2 button presses on the phone itself LOL) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739300 worked perfectly on my T-Mobile Vibrant |
Yeah, I used a similar one. FYI, the Captivate I got from AT&T (w/ latest 2.1-Update1), you cannot get into development mode while holding volup+voldown+power. I had to hunt down a script for it. Looks like it's now built into this too :D P.S. I'm going to play it safe and wait for "rogers" unroot + default pack. That way, if anything ever happens, I can just unroot, and bring it back to stock so Rogers can't weasel themselves out of a warranty. |

But it has caused my phone to crash when the other person hangs up. Gonna try to upgrade to 2.2 to see if that makes any difference. |
^ so does it work with the vibrant's front facing camera now? |
on a side note..offical 2.2 froyo is out for galaxy s!..just we have to wait for it to migrate to NA lol |

haven't found answer on XDA.... will updating to 2.2 screw with my unlock? |
I have the ATT captivate for a couple of weeks and my gps with google nav is awesome in the car. Navigation in satellite view is pretty cool, not to mention the street view integration. I have trouble getting a lock with google maps though. Can't wait to try Google's car app once 2.2 is available. Don't want to root until then because a lot of people are having issues upgrading after rooting. Now we just need ATT to hurry up and release Froyo and a real GPS fix. It sucks for all the Rogers customers because they're probably going to have an even longer wait. |
^ I actually have a feeling that Rogers devices will come out with 2.2. THe GPS issue has already been fixed via JI6 update, which was about a month ago - so I don't see why that wouldn't be in there also |
Actually, the tmobile vibrant got the JI6 update which is supposedly the gps fix. Not sure about the Bell vibrant (which should be getting froyo soon since it's basically a i900) The captivate got the JH7 update which was some minor fixes, but didn't address the gps problem which Samsung is still working on. There are rumors about the gps fix coming with the OTA 2.2 update from ATT. Some people are saying this is false since it wasn't listed on the press release. Why wouldn't Samsung tell everyone that's been waiting ages that the gps fix was coming out? I think Rogers is going to release with 2.1. I'd be completely shocked if it came with 2.2 and gps fix in box. I mean, these are Canadian cell phone companies we're talking about here. Telus still has to get 2.2 to the desire. |
guys... i did this with my nexusone 5min after turning it on ROOT IT the amount of shit that can be done after rooting is night and day i dont know about everyone, but i enjo android wayy too much. I hve a galaxyS on order, so i will root it and make use of this amazing hardware as much as possible |

If CM6 comes out soon, I'm going to root asap. Otherwise, I'm content with stock right now. |

its for stuff like metamorph, the backup programs, setCPU, and system readouts to prep the phone! |
can someone tell me why the sgs earphones don't work well on the computer? When listening to music you only hear the background singing. If you hold down the call button where the mouthpiece is it sounds fine then. What's responsible for this? Curious because the iphone 4 earphones don't work on the sgs as well (same reason as above - seems it has to do with the fact that it has a mouthpiece). |
^ dosen't seem to be the problem with me - pressing the button dosen't have an effect either (T-Mobile Vibrant headphones) |
