Funny how Telus can state a release date for their variant of the SGS, but Rogers is so bloody tight lipped with it.

LOL. My last 2 smartphones were from Telus too. And I'm a Rogers customer.

BTW. The Telus Samsung Galaxy Apollo is not an S variant.

Assuming you're on Rogers/Fido, why would you want a Vibrant? 3G doesn't work on their network, so the obvious choice would be Captivate from Rogers or AT&T, since they are both the same phone.

Vansterdam 09-12-2010 08:01 PM

soo best right now would be either t-monile or at&t ones?

cant seem to find an unbranded one yet

willystyle 09-12-2010 08:16 PM

What?

T-mobile and AT&T run on different networks. Your only choice right now is to get it from AT&T.

Uhh.. Both the Bell and Rogers SGS runs on HSDPA 850. In otherwords.. The only ones you should buy to use here with 3G speeds are:

Bell Vibrant
Rogers Captivate
AT&T Captivate

.

OriginalJC 09-12-2010 09:03 PM

I want my Captivate already!
:)

Vansterdam 09-12-2010 09:04 PM

the only difference between the bell version and the at&t version is the extra button right?

i guess i should try and get a bell one for easier warranty purposes

was just making sure it would work for 3G

Are you a Bell subscriber? if not, you might not get warranty.

Gnomes 09-13-2010 05:10 AM

^
1. Get a friend who is with bell to buy the phone
2. Unlock it and use at your provider
3. ???
4. Relock the phone
5. Get your friend to redeem the profit

...although I havent looked into how to relock a phone.

kuvg 09-13-2010 07:09 AM

if you buy from best buy or future shop they will have the in store warranty or the extended warranty to protect the phone.

Actually the Bell has fewer buttons but has a front camera. The captivate has all capacitive buttons.

MarkyMark 09-13-2010 11:14 AM

I thought all android phones were supposed to have the 4 buttons on the bottom, the vibrant kinda breaks the trend

i thought no bell vibrant didnt have a front cam either. The Tmobile one doesnt, it looks like a front cam but its actually a sensor.

I installed juice defender and it seems to be working decently. when i dont use the phone and leave it on standby, i get through 8 hour days with 75% left. if i use it at all ie browse web, maps, etc it drains like a mofo, even with screen on 30% fixed. could it be a bad battery? i bought it 'new' from craigslist here, it was brand new, the onlyi thing i can imagine the guy did was swap out his weak battery before he sold it to me, but then again the phone hasnt been out long enough to have the 1st battery be killed already. Is there a way to check battery health?

and like you guys said, task killer bugged out. This is the 2nd one i installed. First one was from a different developer and ran perfectly fine under a few days later when it kept crashing the phone, so i uninstalled and installed this one, pretty much same program just different developer. That ran perfectly fine too until today, 3 days later, it kept crashing my gps and phone.... so weird. Something about that 3 day period....

Can you buy it straight up without going into a contract?

Vansterdam 09-13-2010 06:31 PM

you can if you buy it from futureshop or something. bell stores are known not to

I think there are actually more and more bell stores that are willing to sell outright now, now that unlocks are all over the place. Walked into the bell at brentwood the other day and the guy asked if i wanted to sign contract or buy the phone outright. guess no ones wants to sign with them lol

!MiKrofT 09-13-2010 09:10 PM

Ahh. Didn't realize that it was a sensor.

^ no u were right. its front facing camera. kinda useless at this point tho, android has no apps like facetime :(, and skype took themselves off fring as well...

hongy 09-13-2010 10:46 PM

^ 3g video call?...

!MiKrofT 09-13-2010 11:13 PM

Guess its good if you wanna take a self portrait lol.

CP.AR 09-14-2010 09:35 AM

I really see no point in getting a phone with a Front camera in Canada... Data rates here are just so high, and those stupid "video calling" plans are retardedly marketed too, so nobody has them

MarkyMark 09-14-2010 10:47 AM

A front facing camera might be the norm one day, but right now I wouldn't say it's a must have feature.
