If you don't feel like driving down London Drugs has the 8500X50 (red) for 279 and the 9500i for 429. And the Solo S2 too but I'm not sure how much that one is.

Got a V1 here, as a gift. Saved me maybe 2 tickets. A few times it didn't even go off (ie cops didn't use radar) but thankfully they got someone else.

Common sense is best.

My understanding for radar/laser detectors is that they're legal (but frowned upon) in BC/AB/SK, and EVERY state except VA and I think DC. Notice I'm talking about detectors, NOT jammers.

I have a V1. pretty much for highway use. i don't rely on my detector completely, but it's good to have on top of common sense. e.g. don't drive like larry chu.

Surprised there aren't some sort of constitutional challenges against the bans (or maybe there are and we just don't hear about them there). I know in the US, there've been a number of such challenges, which appear to have had varying success... they basically argue that (paraphrasing here, it's been a long time since I read about these cases) the Constitution guarantees people the right to receive any radio signals they want, something that was put in place to prevent the government from restricting what overseas radio people were allowed to listen to... but since radar is, after all, just radio waves, and a detector is nothing more than a receiver with a signal-strength meter, they say that falls under the same law.

Anyway... I love how RS sends out notification emails with the posts included... so even if you edit your post, the original content is still out there:

hey i heard that if you get pulled over by a cop and he see this, you get a ticket?
is this right or is it a myth??
Yes, if you get pulled over and the cop sees you reading this thread on RS, you WILL get a ticket.

I have a Passport 8500 X50 (blue) that i purchased off ebay and it has saved me many times. I have noticed that the fuzz here use the KA band much more than the rest of the frequencies. I have hit a laser trap once since being in the mainland.
Even when i an using the detector i am always scanning ahead and behind for regular and undercover fuzz.

Everyone has different opinions on this, my Valentine 1 has saved me COUNTLESS times, even in the city a lot of times cops drive around with the radar still on and when you detect "KA" anywhere just to slow down only police radars use KA but there are many "K' around as well.

Although the Valentine 1 is annoying I got used to it and learned where ALL the false alarms are "since I always drive the same routes regularly" Then you will get used to it.

Going up SFU it has saved me more than 10 times so good luck.

I noticed I got more speeding tickets when I used a radar detector. I found I relied on it too much that I wasn't using common sense to watch out for standard speed traps. Since getting rid of it (sorry, since it was stolen out of my car a few years back), I've only gotten one speeding ticket, and it was one that a radar detector wouldn't get me out of anyway.

Mind you, my days of speeding more than a few clicks over the limit appear to be behind me now. Arriving at my destination two minutes faster just doesn't outweigh the cons.

I've used a V1 and it was a nice-to-have. But I couldn't justify the cost vs benefit.

Driving smart will prevent more tickets than relying on any kind of detector.

Remember: If you're caught with a detector, the chances of the officer letting you go with a warning will plummet dramatically.
