You'll save tons of money heading down to the states. I have family down in the Seattle area and needed tires anyways. I picked up a set of tires for ~$600 from discount tire as opposed to buying locally which would have cost me over $1000.
For local guys, check out Volco. Everytime I've been there, they've been really helpful and they're prices aren't bad either.
