sorry if this a noob question,

What are you guy's steps in washing you car? and doing a basic wash job what products do you use? I use meguiars gold class wash with a micro fibre cloth and rinse the cloth after every section I do, but every time the car dries I find some pretty decent and noticable scratches! After every wash theres always a new one that wasnt there before and you can tell that it was scratched in. The scratch is big enough its white as if its dug into the paint.
I always check the cloth to make sure nothings embedded in it, an still find scratches that make me go f*K.

Any body got any ideas on how I may be creating these?
or any scratch removers that are clear coat safe?
sorry again if this seems like a stupid question. I'm just sick of finding very noticiable scratches

foam and rinse pre-wash might help

The pre rinse is the most important part of the wash. The more crud you remove from the paint before you take your mitt to it, the less chance you have of scratching the paint during the wash session. Spend at least 3-5 minutes pre rinsing and use the two bucket method for washing. And get rid of your wash cloth and invest in a decent mitt. Like the ones I sell. :)

Yeah... microfiber cloths are not what I'd use to wash a car. Sheepskin mitt is the way to go.

microfiber cloths will always scratch clean flat surfaces, like roastpuff said, sheeps are the way to go

How do you usually dry the sheep mitt? My gf used it and it seems the colour comes off? I got the black coloured sheep mitt from Ken. Am I doing something wrong Ken? My gfs finger tips were slightly dyed by the sheep mitt colour.

Edit: OP, I think when you drive at 70+ km/h its easy for the tiny rocks or gravels leave a scratch mark on the surface, I have quite a few scratches on my car too... I need to pick up the PC buffer from Ken, probably drop by his shop and get him to demo :)

Two bucket method + quality mitt are your best friends.
Maybe try letting the weight of the mitt apply pressure (not sure if that makes sense or not)

that plus grit guards in both buckets.

Invest in a pressure washer. I bought a Karcher from Costco for $179 a month back and it included a foaming lance in it. It doesn't match a specialty foam lance, but it's a start.

2000 psi, 1.5 GPM. Don't have the cash for a gas powered one which would be ideal. But it's a vast improvement versus not using a pressure washer. Foam lance, rinse at max power, 2 bucket method and my mitt is doesn't even get dirty when I wipe the lower panels. :thumbsup:

How big is it? Storage is a bit of an issue for me

I think you'd be fine with the gardening hose turned to "jet" output.

thanks for all the tips. I wash the car using the two bucket method this time around and will continue. My car has got chiips from rocks and such from driving on freeways and what not but i can tell which are chips and which ones have been scratched in :(

I wouldnt mind picking up a sheep mitt if it will hopefully reduce these scratches

I used to think the same but I picked up a Husky brand one at Home Depot for $50 ( no shit! ) and have been using it for about a year. The hose sucks as its more plastic than rubber but its 1500psi and 1.5gpm. More than enough for washing your car. Gas ones are soooooo loud. Usually double the db of an electric. If you get a Karcher, I can get you the really nice Foam Cannons as they have adapters for Karcher.

how do you dry the car? maybe it has to do with the way you try it. get a quality chamois or waffle weave micro fiber.

It doesn't take up too much room. About the size of the 5G buckets.

I believe the foam cannons can be had for around $80CDN.

ugh... regardless of what soap or pre-rinse, or two bucket, or foam gun. I always get new scratches... stupid Infiniti paint.
