Model Spraypaint - Where to buy? Decided to post here since this gets WAYYY more traffic than VLS Where can I get those small cans of Tamiya Spraypaint for cheap? The only place I can think of is Imperial Hobbies but I know there are probably some smaller shops out there with a prices a bit lower. EDIT: It's for a Tamiya TT01-E Polycarbonate body Please tip in if you know! TY |
magic box hobbies in kerrisdale has tamiya paints |
Apollo hobbies, next to production way skytrain station. |
a few of stores at crystal mall have tamiya paints. i think $7-8 a can. umm that anime/hobby store in metro by toysrus has it too, but they rarely restock. |
Magic Box in Kerrisdale; Burnaby Hobbies and of the hobby stores in the Chrystal definitely have them as I've got paint from all of them. The prices are fairly consistent I think, not much difference between any of them. What RC body do you have? Magic box does tons of RC. |
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll definately check out Magic Box since several people have suggested it, and it's the closest to me... ^ I got a Evo 10 body, couple of friends and I just decided to take this RC hobby up, they got 350z, GT-R, a Lotus Elise, FD and I think one of them just bought a HiAce body |
You must visit Cam at Go-Go hobbies and Norm at Race tech  These are the only places to go imo. |
Imperial Hobbies is having their annual customer appreciation sale. Everything in the store is at least 20% off. I have no idea why I'm telling you guys, because there will be nothing left within 5 minutes of opening once cheap Asians find out, LOL. All kidding aside, I'm looking forward to this sale. |
^ i shall bring my cheap asian friends and clean the paint out! Posted via RS Mobile |

I've got my eye on an Iwata there, but even at 20 - 25% off, it might not be in the cards (the Mastercard). We'll see. Unfortunately, I cannot be there on the first day of the sale. Good luck to you and your friends. |

went to magic box.... expensive paint! |
Phoned Imperial Hobbies to see what hte discounts were like. 25% off everything in the store! BTW, I haven't put together a plastic model kit in ages. I bought myself a Gundam kit while at AE. Holy crap, have models come a long way. I have a good collection of Tamiya waterline series WWII naval ships and a smattering of Tamiya WWII German tanks, but I like this Gundam shit. I find I have little patience in old age, so I'm taking my time putting it together. My eyesight is going, too. I used to paint hundreds of military pieces in my younger days. HO scale Napoleonic figures for tabletop wargaming. Had entire regiments of French, Prussian, and British infantry, calvary, and artillery. Did tonnes of research and painted the figures in great detail. Now they have this Warhammer stuff. Pretty wild. |
Jean-Luc, I was at Crystal Mall yesterday and the hobby shop on the second floor has Tamiya paints at decent prices. Not a whole lot cheaper, but not bad. Paint thinner, the large bottle was $8.50 opposed to $11.99 at other places. Paint bottles were $2.55 each. Didn't look at spray paint, sorry. I think the guy gets his stuff directly from Japan and not the Canadian distributor. Did you know models and toys are duty free? I wonder if that incluses paints and tools for models. |
If you have any buddies vacationing in HK for the summer, get them to bring some back. ~$4 CAD for a bottle there. I'd help but unfortunately I'm back here already. |
^ Haha of course, I already got my dad to bring me a healthy supply Thanks! Blkcivic thanks for the headsup, I'll definately check them out when I go out to Burnaby |
I'm in Richmond tomorrow. Are there any Chinese hobby shops in any of the malls? Looking for Tamiya tools and the A4 cutting pad that fits into the Tamiya work stand. The pad is not available from the Canadian distributor. Like the place in Crystal Mall, Tamiya stuff is probably brought in from Asia, bypassing any distributor. On a side note, this is yet another Canadian distributor that drops the ball. I would buy stuff from a Canadian based company, but when shit ain't available there's no choice but to get grey market stuff or get it on flea bay. Edit: where on Gambie... errrr.... I mean Cambie is this Golden Horizon? j/k, I'll look it up. |
Burnaby Hobbies on Rumble/Royal Oak has tamiya paint |
Thanks. I've been to Burnaby Hobbies. I'm going into Richmond. Anyway, leaving now. |
