only one small giveaway when they do their "honger" accent. their 'er' sounds are too proper. ie.

faster, brother, - the 'er' still sounds canadian. It should sound more like:
'fastuh', 'bah-duh'

Maybe the "er" is a mainland influence more than a Canadian one.

this chick is pretty epic too, singing though

fliptuner 08-11-2010 05:32 PM

She sounds annoying.

I think it's easier to learn songs in another language since it's more mimicking. That's why a lot of non-English speakers are able to sing English songs and sound decent - even if they don't know what the words mean. Conversational speaking is harder since the right word for the situation needs to be used and the accents within that word should also be correct.

LOL whoa, they're good!

shenmecar 08-11-2010 05:52 PM

SkinnyPupp 08-11-2010 07:07 PM

I don't really get why people are so blown away by these guys, who were born and raised in Macau. It's their native language...

Tim Budong 08-11-2010 09:24 PM

I know a few EI that speak perfect cantonese..one actually knows mandarin as well as read/write the language...

born/raised in HK. went through the HK public school system
its not surprising to me any more.

I always see this one white guy at admiralty center who speaks cantonese and orders food in cantonese. its not as amusing either, becuz I see this shit in hongkong anyways

Being white and having a Cantonese girlfriend, and trying my best to learn Cantonese from her and her family, i now know that i have a long long ways to go to catch up to these guys. I will not show my g/f's family this, because then it'll put alot more pressure on me!

I was in Sydney Australia with my g/f and her family, and this white guy that worked at the Blue Mountains was speaking perfect mandarine to these chinese people. My g/f's mom picked up one this quickly and said, see if he can do it so can you! You are smarter than him! I was like, no pressure! lol! He said it took him 4 years to learn, so i told her, See? Give me 4 years and i'll be right there too! So in 4 years, i have alot of learning to do! Wish me luck!

In a couple decades theres probably gonna be a large chunk of non-asian people who speak fluent chinese. Then I won't be able to talk shit about them with my asian friend haha.

Gumby 08-12-2010 08:02 AM

The best part of this video is that it appears they were or had been in Richmond! So there's a local connection. :)

You are going to compare yourself, who was probably born and raised in Canada to someone who was born in raised from Macau and speaking their native language?

Some of you guys who are so amazed must of never really traveled or lived outside of Canada for the latter part of your life. Stop living in your bubble, people from all over the world live in different places. These guys are no different than the millions of other people who did not grow up in their ancestral country, including the hundreds of CBC's on this board.

I was wondering if I was the only one who thought this way.

I think I'll make a video of myself speaking English. Maybe it'll get a lot of hits!!!
