Gahhhh...I don't know which one to get! I really want to get the Kobo Touch, but not sure if touch screen is a step forward or backward? (Some people say the touch screen does not respond well to page turning)

Plus who wants finger prints on their screen? With a tablet you sorta accept fingerprints, yet on a single purpose device I want to avoid them if possible.
That said, if there were buttons for page turning and a touch screen I'd take that. I think the keyboard at the bottom of my Kindle is a waste of space.

^Looks like Nook or the new Sony would suit you! Anyways, I'm going to visit a Chapters to play around with a Kobo to see how I like it, and wait for the release of the new Sony before I decide, since I'm not leaving for another month.

Why is everyone suggesting tablets with backlit screens? eBooks are good because they do not use backlit screens - the purpose of having eBooks is so that you can read them out in the daylight without having to turn up a backlight. It's not about reading it in the dark and having tired eyes from the screen....well, maybe a little but why would you read a book in the dark anyways.
Until they have the best of both worlds, such as Pixel Qi displays, then eBooks will still have a place.

Also, backlit e-readers are more useful, as they do more than just display books.

Great, now Amazon has released the new Kindles!
$79 for the non-touch screen version, $99 for the new touch version. Apparently only available in the US, but if I order and ship to my US shipping address and bring it back to Canada (my Amazon account is in Canada), will I still be able to use it normally? Or does it require a US account (e.g. Nook)? Also, the touch screen isn't released til november and I'm going away next month...I'm wondering how difficult it will be to use the new $79 version that is non-touch and has no keyboard...

Anyways, I'm sold on the non-touch model. I'm using it solely for reading, so lack of physical/touch keyboard is not a deal-breaker for me. I'll probably download 99% of my books at home anyways. Plus, I really need an e-reader before I go on holidays in October, and for $79, can't really go wrong! Worst case scenario I can upgrade to a touch later.

Sweet!
I do not need the keyboard on my Kindle 3. I have only used it to type in my wifi password. I buy most of my books on the website, then sync the device. The few times I have bought books on the device it was another book in the series, so I could buy it with a couple clicks.

Dont forget the $79 & $99 price points are for advertisments included in the kindle. Add 20 bucks or so for the non-ad version.... or wait for people to hack the kindle again.

There will of course be issues with any electronic device but from what I have seen and experienced the Kindle 3 has met the needs of my wife and grandma just fine.

^ kind of want the touch for the overall looks, and i prefer touchscreen
edit : 79$ 4way D-pad is only for US. so its in USD + shipping to US address only.. if you want the kindle d-pad in canada its 109$
edit2: so might as well get the 99$ USD touch kindle and ship it to TSB, it isn't that far driving down there. you pay the same price pretty much after tax

I ordered a non-touch one b/c I need one for my holiday in October, and I'm not a huge fan of touch screen.
