Sorry to bring this thread up but I am planning on getting a E-book reader.
Have been getting back into reading lately (read like 4 books in a month....).
Mostly I read Fiction but I don't mind reading non-fiction as well. Looking for something that isn't too expensive and needs to have WiFi for sure.
Try using an Ipad before and it just hurts my eyes after 30mins so or.
I would buy the books if it is good but wouldn't mind getting by other means as well.....perfer a bigger screen

You want an ebook reader that has a bigger screen than an ipad? That's not gonna be very hand held friendly. Your best bet is to get an actual reader that uses e-ink. Kindle DX is the largest you can buy with E-ink

Is there tech in the iPad 2 that resolves that problem? You want an e-ink reader. As !MiKrofT mentioned, the KindleDX is the biggest e-ink reader available now. The regular Kindle screen size is about the same size as a page in a paperback.
My wife has had her 2nd gen Kindle for a couple years, now. She loves it. All her reading is done on it. The battery life is insane. Purchasing new books is also ridiculously easy on their 3G connection. I've used it a few times, and it feels like you're reading a page out of a book. If i wasn't a cheap-ass, I'd get a Kindle for myself.

I just got a Kindle, the basic one without touch or 3G and I fucking love it. The screen is great, buying books is easy as hell and as I get tired I bump up the font size and so it's easier to read. Best $120 I've spent in a long time. I don't see any real benefit to the touchscreen imo, this way I can read one handed and I don't have to worry about smudges or scratches on my screen as much.

I'm trying to read a lot more now so I grabbed a Kobo eReader and so far it's been great! The page turning is a tiny bit slower than what I'd hope but I can't complain!

Recently bought a Kobo touch..fucking love it. It'll probably save me a ton of money. I actually prefer it over a real book.

I have a Kindle and a Kobo and an Ipad.
Personally, regardless of which device I use, I really prefer the good olde paperback and even hard-cover books.
I tried Kindle: used it for 5 books.
I tried Kobo : used it for 1 book
But, Kobo was better than the regular Kindle since you can only buy the regular B&W Kindle in Canada.
The Kobo was the colour one and it was sufficiently bright.
But, I prefer good olde paper:
It's more tangible... and I love to collect books after I finish reading them (over 500 Fantasy & Sci-Fi since 20 years ago).
So... just in case, remember to keep your receipt.

I still love my Kindle, I like the physical buttons cause you can rear one handed and you don't get fingerprints on the screen. I got my girlfriend the Kindle Keyboard 3G and she lovs that as well, the 3G is nice to have available but she hasn't used it yet.

Got a Kobo and an ipad mini. Every since I got the ipad mini haven't touch the Kobo at all. I mena the Kobo is nice is lighter and actually is nicer to read on but the load time is way too long and it only reads. Ipad mini can do a lot more and read as well.
If don't you plan on reading more than an hour at a time I suggest getting an ipadmin or Nexus 7. Bigger tablets will be too heavy.

Thanks for the input thus far.
Marshall Placid: Which kobo do you have?
Mr.HappySlip: Same as above.
After comparing the different products, I think the Kobo comes out on top compared to the Kindle, Nook, etc.
It would make sense to get a tablet as it can do that much more, but in my case I am just looking for a stand alone.

Just picked up a Kobo Aura HD last week, 6.8" eink display (vs. Kindle PW, Kobo Glo, Nooks 6" format) but way higher resolution 1440x1080 so a very crisp 265ppi (vs. Kindle PW 212ppi).
Pricey but very nice ereader with an interesting ergonomic paper crease design on the rear.
