Essentially it comes down to touch screen or not, size, and weight of the phone.

Both locked and loaded with OS6 so you can't go wrong with that, both running 5MP cameras and both have a 624MHZ processor.

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3...&idPhone2=3203

see what you like, like i said before 9780 is just a refreshed device of 9700 meaning double the ram , 5MP camera and comes with OS6

What screen protector are u guys using and where'd u get them? A couple of people I know at school have these matte screen protector or something - haven't really had a chance to ask them where they got it. The plastic cover thing for mine is starting to come off...

My first 9700 creaked like an 80 year old house

That is absolutely opposite of my experience. My 9000s (I had *4* under warranty) were the biggest POSs ever. My 9700 was a huge improvement and to be honest, I wish I hadnt upgraded to the 9780, I find OS6 a complete pain in the ass for 99% of things.

My 9000 was a beast, and my 9700/9780's build quality are very good as well.
What's wrong with OS6? I like the upgrade and everything runs very smoothly. The only problem I have is that when I try to scroll to the top left or right corner, it goes to the next view, which is the only thing that annoys me.

The only thing that bugs me about OS6 is that a few of my apps aren't compatible but that's on the developer's end, not RIM

There are two things that absolutely piss me off:

1) I hate the new menu system where it goes between Favourites, All, Frequent, Media, etc. It is super annoying when I want to QUICKLY access something because I find it always changes and it's hard to quickly move the cursor to the correct bar to rotate it, especially while driving.

2) It drives me beserk that my text messages which are threaded dont go to the bottom by default and there doesnt seem to be a hotkey to go directly to the bottom!

Yeah, they need to fix the hotkeys for text messages and such, new official OS6 has been release.

http://m.crackberry.com/official-os-...bold-9780-avea

Ill load it as soon as I am home

in the latest OS , the one i just posted, they fixed the hotkeys for T(top) and B(bottom)

Any noticeable changes on .359? I'm running on .285 and that text bug is annoying as hell

6insomnia9 12-06-2010 03:31 PM

Text bug is fixed that is all i can say now

mb_ 12-06-2010 03:43 PM

k thanks, i have nothing better to do so i'll upgrade to .359 in a min.. will report back if there's any changes that is worth mentioning

Another annoying point is the universal search. I mean it's great for some things... but for calling and texting it sucks. In OS5 I could call, text, or email someone quickly. But now I would have to go into the phone app, type the name and then press contact..

mb_ 12-06-2010 07:45 PM

Everything seems okay so far.. nice that the SMS bug is fixed..

Got kinda scared for about an hour cause fb + twitter wasn't working but it was being iffy all day. Did a few battery pulls and things started going back to normal :)

ws6ta 12-07-2010 01:49 PM

anyone go torch ---> 9780 or 9780 ---> torch??

thinking about trying out the torch. been juggling between iphones and berries since the 9000 was released but have only used the the bold line up. 9000/9700 now 9780

lowside67 12-07-2010 03:22 PM

I must be retarded but I have had absolutely no luck trying to update my 9780 to 359. Every time I try and click "update" it checks and cant find anything. I downloaded the new version (like 160mb) from AVEA @ Blackberry, installed, it just loaded desktop manager and does the same thing. What am I doing wrong?

mb_ 12-07-2010 03:27 PM

Ur doing it wrong :troll:

- Close Blackberry Desktop Manager after backing ur shit up
- Delete vendor.xml in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\AppLoader. Program Files (x86) if u have 64-bit
- In the same folder, open Loader.exe
- Follow on-screen instructions and watch your berry update

I went 9700 > torch > 9700. If you have a 9700 I don't think 9780 or 9800 are worth the upgrade. If you had any other blackberry than its worth an upgrade for sure.

6insomnia9 12-08-2010 11:10 AM

Already stated this before, 9780 wasn't really made by RIM to promote 9700 to upgrade to it, it is merely a refresh device of it to attract people to RIM and to promote OS6.

mb_ 12-16-2010 03:53 AM

FUUU I think I have a dead pixel. Goes away when I (lightly) give the screen a quick tap; a minor annoyance though. Should I get it replaced just in case?

!Yaminashi 12-16-2010 10:50 AM

What kind of battery life are you guys getting on the 9780?
Mine's usually off the charger by 830am every morning, when I get home from work around 530pm I have about 40-50% left

6insomnia9 12-16-2010 10:54 AM

2 days for me with heavy usage, i think it automatically stops changing when its full.

!Yaminashi 12-16-2010 10:57 AM

How are you getting 2 days? Mind sharing what apps you have, and what you use your phone for?

6insomnia9 12-16-2010 11:29 AM

BBM and texting mostly barely making calls/browsing/youtube

!Yaminashi 12-16-2010 11:33 AM

Do you have any apps that refresh/update regularly?
Weather apps, fb, twitter etc?

Also what FW are you running?

6insomnia9 12-16-2010 11:42 AM

I don't use any apps except googlemaps nor do i have facebook or twitter.
