i dont know why people would have a problem with it. last time i checked, it wasnt the religion that drove those 2 planes in to the buildings, it was a bunch of dudes fucked in the head.
Technically theres' nothing wrong with having mosque near ground zero, it's just not a very wise decision. If the muslims that planning the mosque are smart and considerate, they wouldn't build it there just to avoid further tainting the image of islam in americans' minds.
It's like if a building caught on fire because of some dumb kids torching it with firecrackers, it wouldn't be a wise decision to open a firecracker shop next to the original location before things are even repaired.
It's just a god damn dumb PR move. There's nothing wrong with building mosque since people needs to pray, but really? right next to ground zero? why don't they just apply to build it ON ground zero?
Btw, i know this will piss of alot of people, but it's a bunch of dudes fucked in the head BECAUSE of their religion.
Call me bias, (to quote george carlin) no truely sane human beings would be convinced "that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll be sent to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity..... But he loves you! and he needs money!!!!!".
I know that quote was meant for yahweh, but it aint that far off from describing allah.
Which is my point. Most Americans don't even know what has happened in that short period of time. They are more worried about how low the guy bows to the Emperor of Japan.

The thing is there is a need in that area for a community center. This place is going to have a swimming pool, library, daycare and a prayer hall.

every religion has extremists. look at Christianity and you will think of the shit that went on in northern Ireland. Judaism has individuals like Baruch Goldstein who massacred 25 muslims and injured many more. My religion, sikhism, has the air india bombing. etc etc etc. every religion has their fucked up people.
there are about 1.5 billion muslims in this world. now if every muslim in this world was like those people who flew that plane into those 2 buildings then the whole world would cease to exist. im sure it dosent take a genius to know that but seriously. people have got to separate a bunch of whack jobs that use a religion as a crutch from people that actually practice the religion and mean no harm to anyone.
i hope this isnt wishful thinking.
"why dont they apply to build it ON ground zero" cmon man give me a freakin break. i hope that was a joke
^unfortunately there are a lot of people who blame religion as the reason for 9/11... whether or not its right or not is irrelevant. people will always find a reason to blame and right now the unfortunate reality is that the religion is being used as the scapegoat for the crimes of the extremists. The question is what are the islamic people doing to minimize this perception...and building a mosque in such a sensitive area is definitely not helping.
^ or maybe building a mosque. showing people nearby how they live, work, play, worship and interact with the community is exactly what they need
As a muslim, I do get where t8v6 is coming from. I get that. And I was on his side, until I saw how pissed off the rednecks were , and the shit they were saying.. now I'm happy they're building it there just so these fuckers get more pissed.

Sorry to bump the thread. Did any one else watch Imam Rauf on CNN? I have a new found respect beyond what I had before for the building of the Islamic center. He really understands what the center holds for America and the risks moving it would do for the Americans overseas and athome. He says best when he says that moving the mosque would be declaring war on Islam in a metaphorical sense. First part of the video.
he mentions how that this is really a fight between moderates in all faiths, and radicals in all faiths.
If he were to move it, the radical christians will publicize it as a battle won AGAINST Islam, which will just further divide the Muslim and Non-Muslim world. Conversely, the radical muslims, will take it as an insult against Islam, which will just be used to further convert more people into terrorists.
