Richmond RCMP WARNING: Theft from Motor Vehicle August 19, 2010

Heads up, my dad just forwarded this to me from the Richmond RCMP/Richmond Blockwatch Association:

Quote:

This email is to inform you of an incident occurred in Richmond on August 19, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bridgeport Road and Garden City Road. The victim has just left his bank in his vehicle after withdrawing a significant amount of money. The victim noted a loud bang and stopped his vehicle. He noticed a clean cut in his passenger side rear tire. The victim left his wallet on the front passenger seat and proceeded to change his tire. Upon completion, the victim noted his wallet missing and his front driver side door slightly open. If you know anything about this theft from vehicle, please call the Richmond RCMP at 604 278-1212.

fail?

sonick 08-20-2010 01:15 PM

Nope, it's legit. My dad is a blockwatch captain.

Cillu 08-20-2010 01:15 PM

How is that even possible?

SumAznGuy 08-20-2010 01:16 PM

Fail X 2?

insomniac 08-20-2010 01:20 PM

this often happens alot at the TD bank in front of richmond center..
this happened to my friends mom. a few guys let air out of my frnds mom and offered to help her change her tire when they "noticed that it was leaking air". she left her purse in the car cause she wouldnt change a tire with her purse on right? while one was changing the tire the other took the purse and booked it before actually changing the tire..

Aye. I've seen this scheme a few times over the years as well. Always take your keys with you and lock your car if there's anything of value left in it, no matter if it's for a few seconds or a few hours.

what kind of a guy leaves their wallet on the passenger seat? i can see a woman leaving their purse maybe, but a guy and wallet? really?

From what I have observed, it's very easy to open a locked glovebox. Either by force, or by picking the lock.

your parents/friends shouldnt be so gullible and lock their cars, or at least keep an eye out when stangers are offering help..

raygunpk 08-20-2010 05:49 PM

i think we're underestimating the fact that the thief could be a ninja.

A pain in the ass to lose. Keep it on your body.

Euro7r 08-21-2010 01:00 AM

How the hell does one not realize it's surroundings and get robbed like that. Dumbass or something.

Orion 08-21-2010 01:05 AM

I was at the police station two - three weeks ago and an old asian male came in reporting $5000 stolen from his car... he was super upset... he left it in the car or something and ran into the bank to either get more money or deposit some back in then somebody broke his window and took his whole bag...

landsdowne area... richmond ain't safe no more

Senna4ever 08-21-2010 01:08 AM

WTF is a block watch captain, and is it something one should pride themselves on being?

haha, Me. But only when I leave my NDS in there.
But I never feel the glove compartment is safe.
I'm not sure, but if someone has the same car model, his key will be able
to open it?? Glove compartment locks don't seem as advanced as car doors.

I'm surprised this idiot didn't just leave his keys in the car too.
But then again, if he had a flat tire, I guess the thief wouldn't have been able to take off with the car anyway.
