My buddy who manages a bodyshop in Nanaimo says it cost 3 to 4 thousand to wrap a car but on RS I here it costs 6 to 7 thousand to wrap a car.

No.

It does cost 3 to 4 thousand to wrap a car, depending on the size and difficulty of the car.

If someone is charging 6/7 grand tell them to eff off.

Bavara Autohaus will do it. They do great work! My car is looking like new after it came back from them to fix the vandalism damage on it.

Rather just paint it... How much is the vinyl itself? How many hours you think it takes to do it?

Thought about doing this to 4runner so I could protect the paint for pinstripping/flying rocks/etc... But not at that price. Friend said he found a place that gave a vague quote of $400.

lol. My friend and I do full car wraps with either 3M or Oracal matte black vinyl - and we don't charge anywhere near the ridiculous price SR is asking for. I have several cars wrapped including my own if you want to check it out. PM me if interested.

What's the point of having vinyl wrap then? If you're worried about getting paint damage, why not consider a clear bra instead?

if that's the case, buy $50 worth of rattle cans... if it gets scratched, just spray more! Save thousands... lol

this is the place that wraps SR's cars. call the number listed, do not email... andy is too busy to answer email but he does answer his phone. he's located in richmond right next door to SR's richmond location.

I just saw Andy last nite, he's basicly booked till end of September but he's probably got the most experience doing vehicle wraps in the GVRD.

Would anybody care to enlighten me why you would want to wrap your car in a "fake" sticker/vinyl instead of actually going to get a matte paint job?

Apologies for my newbieness.

If you ever want to sell the car, you can just peel the the vinyl off and retain the original paint job. I believe, for an exotic car, the factory paint color codes are hard to replicate again with an aftermarket paint job should you decide to go back to factory colors. The value of an exotic would go down if you painted over it. RS'ers can correct me on this.

I'd assume it also would provide some protection from rocks/debris. You can just peel off a section and re-wrap it.

just to add to what matsuda just said... it's a non-permanent way to change your color, you don't have to worry about scratches or waxing, etc. you don't have to worry about bad resprays and depending on the vehicle type, doing a wrap is cheaper as well.

there are some nice 3m color choices available now. i watched andy do a c63 amg in some sort of grey that had metallic highlights in it that made it change color in direct sunlight... but of course material like that would cost more than your basic matte black.

also pay attention to what vinyl material is being offered by the shop you choose. it was explained to me that some brands have little to no uv protection, or are just plain vinyl with the color printed on it, as opposed to the actual material made in the color it shows. warranty on material and labor is a factor as well. also, you might want to double check with icbc if this sort of thing is covered should damage occur. i recall hearing andy say that he has rewrapped as part of icbc claims but i forget the particulars....
