| Best Chinese Style Bakeries
Hey guys, if you haven't noticed, I'm a total foodie who doesn't compromise.
It's not often that I go for chinese bakery goods, but when I do, I'm hoping for something super soft, sweet and melt in your mouth with a little bit of gluten.
Since it's not really high on my priority list, I don't feel like I need to be hunting for the best bakery personally.
So I'll let you guys do the legwork.
Tung Hing on Kingsway does the best Bahn in the city hands down, but I was never too impressed with their pastries and buns.
Any thoughts?

Li Do in Richmond for their fresh-as-fuck pineapple buns.
I dunno the name of the bakery beside it (in the same plaza), but they have some pretty good dan-tan (egg tarts).

Kam Do used to have the best lo por bang. Not sure if that's still the case.
There is a bakery (or at least was 5 years ago when I last went) between Parker and Aberdeen that had overall decent stuff.
I'm probably spoiled now that I have found some great places in Hong Kong though.. We'll find out when I go back next |

New Town in Chinatown has the best apple tarts and bbq pork buns in my opinion.

Wow guys, keep them coming please.
If you'd be able to locate the places with translated chinese names, that would be much appreciated!
Side request:
I recently left the continent for the first time.
In macau, I had the best Portuguese egg tarts, they were incredible.
Super soft and flavorful custard, and impossibly buttery, flaky pastry crust.
Is there anything here that can even come close?

While I don't care too much for it, nothing in town (at least in my experience) comes close to what Kam Do has to offer.
Edit: +1 to Bonka's suggestion. New Town Bakery is still my favourite Chinese bakery in town.

+1 for New Town BBQ Buns, steamed chicken buns, and apple tarts. Really anything is good there. Downtown and Richmond locations are almost identical. Posted via RS Mobile |

Castle Cake Shop/Bakery in Richmond, Plaza with Macs Noodle and Amigo Cafe doesn't have the best buns but they for damn sure have the best Mango Cakes. I don't mean the single slices but the whole cakes. PLus they have it 10 months out of the year which is even sweeter.
+1 for newtown Apply Tarts, their off the hook!

The best Chinese bun bakery that I have come across is Mega bakery on Cambie Rd.
It's the closest thing to Taiwanese bakery I ate in TW... highly recommended.

For birthday cakes, I've always the ones from Saint Germain (I know of two locations: Metrotown and Aberdeen. not sure if theres more)
They're a bit pricey compared to places like T&T, but its good, esp. the fresh fruit mousse cakes.

I think there's a Saint Germain Bakery at Oakridge Mall as well. My family has been ordering cakes from the Metrotown location for many years. Can't say too much about their pastries though.

hahahah,
As much as I love chinese breads, I absolutely cannot stand their horrible one-size-fits-all sponge cakes. Seems utterly generic to me, nothing good about sponge cakes to me, too easy to screw up, and it only gets as good as mediocre to me.
I much prefer western pastries and cakes.
Speaking of cakes, got one on order from Ganache.
Anybody got more spectacular places to try?

Anna's egg tarts - they are different from your typical ones
One of the better local portugese egg tarts for me was from Michelle's there is one location on West Blvrd and one in Richmond by RPM.
