Does the power supply make a slight click or clicking sound when you try to start it up? Everything else should be ok providing you had a decent power supply. Shouldn't need to take it to a shop, just get a new power supply and replace it, super easy swap

there should be a main power switch that turns on/off the power supply on the back of the power supply, plug the power cord in, turn the switch off, press the power button on the front of the computer a few times, wait a few minutes, now turn the switch to on and try and power on the computer.
as for the E and ? problem, look on ur task bar and look for the keyboard icon, change it from canadian multi standard to US and u'll get the ? back.

yeah sounds like you'll need a new supply, they're easy to take out and swap. if you're not familiar with them just take the old one (or it's product number) into a computer shop and buy a new supply that'll have everything you need.
also, go buy a surge protector, they're cheap.
for the french E, hit the left ctrl + left shift (in order) and you can shuffle through the language settings, there's probably 2 or 3 so just keep hitting that combo til you get back to regular english again.

Don't buy a garbage dynex from futureshop that'll within a year, blow up on you and/or send surges through your components and screw them up. $71 is robbery too, for a generic POS.
Go down to NCIX and pick up a power supply from there.
Click this link and scroll down to Power Supplies: there are at least a few on sale that're cheaper than this Dynex crap and will be a lot more reliable too: http://www.ncix.com/promo/promosale....d=Back2School2

The plugs don't come off the power supply, they come out on the end of the DVD drive and CD drive: you just pull outwards. A screwdriver might help you pry it out if you really can't manage.
Btw what kind of computer is this? If it's one of those proprietary Dell or HP built desktops, they might use oddly shaped or at least miniature sized power supplies, and you wouldn't be able to fit a standard sized one back in there. Can you take pics or measure?

If your computer doesn't turn on then how are you posting all of this?
Just Kidding.
Is your computer still turning itself off because the fan by the motherboard isn't working?

I usually do a lot of research and spend a lot on my power supplies. I mean its powering everything in your computer so you'd want something stable and reliable.

This happened to me last year when I had that power outage by Hastings around this time. I had to get my PSU changed and then I had no problems starting it up again. Thank god I didn't have anything too important on my computr.

UPS: uninterruptible power supply. which is basically a battery backup in case an outage comes up. i'll let the more technically-inclined describe the differences between black-out, brown-out, lightning storms etc.
you do realize it's potentially not just damaging the PSU every time this happens right?
