Wal-Mart has different flavours for their roasted chicken...

And when you go after 9pm, if there's still some left, it's discounted to like $5 I think it was...

u can always roast it yourself
6-7 bucks for a cheap fryer, or on the other end, 15 bucks for a 3-4lb organic bird that makes leftovers for days.

roasting a chicken is one of the easiest things you can do for the amount of reward at the end. cutting the bird after takes a lil practice tho

Yep.

The biggest problem I have with the store bought chicken is that they usually use the shit-grade chicken and go overboard on the amount of salt they use (no doubt to cover up the shitty grade of chicken).

I just did a 5lb bird on the rotisserie yesterday, and I'm going to make a roast chicken pasta with the left overs tomorrow.

Convenience.

Anyone can roast a bird but not many people have the time to do it - especially during the week.

I think only uncooked BEEF was illegal to bring across the border. I've brought uncooked chicken breasts and eggs back from the States nearly every time I go since it's cheaper down there.

+1 on Fred Meyer's chicken. SO good!

iirc, beef is legal to bring back, at least from point roberts.
There's this little paper they got posted up in the grocery store meat section.

Also, we brought back a turkey during thanksgiving.
mmmmms, turkey!

My parents always bring beef back in to Canada even after a daytrip in Seattle.

Just don't bring beef IN to the US.

I bring back meat into Canada all the time. Mostly uncooked, but the price of the Costco bird is hard to beat.

You are allowed to bring back 20kg of meat per person.

Within this limit,
•a maximum of one whole turkey or 10 kilograms of turkey products;
•a maximum of 10 kilograms of chicken; and
•a maximum of 5 kilograms of edible meats and meat products from cattle, sheep, goat bison and buffalo

Products should be from US origin.

Cheese, milk and eggs are cheap in the US ... gas too!

The roasted chicken from Costco stateside are 25-30% bigger compared to the roasted chickens here. They're a mutant compared to the regular ones.

the skin might have high sodium but you're only supposed to eat maybe half a small chicken at most in a normal serving (probably more like a third or a quarter).
keep your portions reasonable and i'd say its pretty healthy

As unit posted, most of the bad stuff is in the skin but in all reality, how can you NOT eat the skin??? It's just one of life's guilty pleasures.
