I just fixed my own. Bought a new top cover w/hinge and swapped it over. Wasn't that hard.
Within about six months the new one was cracking too. Acer was unsympathetic. Fuck Acer, will never ever buy or recommend another Acer product.
Ten or so years ago, I had an NEC laptop that had the same problem. When I called NEC to ask about order a replacement part, they told me it was a known problem, sent a courier to pick it up (supplied the packaging as well), and had it back to me within a week, completely repaired (including a new bottom case, which they found also had a small crack)... all completely free (including the call to their 1-800 number). THAT is good customer service!
