How long do you keep your cars for?

I bought my car recently on April but been thinking recently on selling/trading for a second gen gs300/400. But its way too soon even thinking of buying a different car. Im probably going to keep my car til next year until I reach my goals. Just wondering what are the factors in you getting a different car. Is it you just get bored with it? New project?

tofu1413 08-30-2010 08:58 PM

bored --> throw it on CL --> wait for fish --> look for smth interesting --> sell --> new car!

i get bored of my RSX-S every now and then. ocassionally i drive my friends cars (03 accord coupe/ older c-class) then i realize... how much i enjoy my RSX. not the best car, but i do like the sportyness

TomBox_N 08-30-2010 09:52 PM

I change cars when I get bored . My next car will be a hardtop convertible and I plan to keep it for as long as it runs.

Got my license a year ago. I'm on to my 4th car. No, I didn't crash them, and no, my parents did not pay for them.

Hoping to make my 5th within the next few months.

twitchyzero 08-30-2010 09:58 PM

the average time for car switches/upgrade is 8 years
considering this is RS...i'm sure it's more like 4-5 years

Bonka 08-30-2010 10:04 PM

I drive it until I kill it or it gets killed, whichever comes first :D

Lomac 08-30-2010 10:16 PM

On average, I go through 2 cars a year. The Accord I've owned for just slightly over a year now and it's the longest I've ever held onto a single vehicle. :lol My record is 5 cars in one year.

I have terrible car ADD. I buy a car, mod it, enjoy it for a couple months, then flip it for a new one.

I would say 6 years, thats the point to make the decision, usually at 6 years cars would worth about 50% of what it was new. after that it just drop, so if I am selling the car I would do it around 6 years or else I would keep it till it no longer runs

Mugen EvOlutioN 08-31-2010 08:06 AM

5 years seems a good bench mark for me

spoon.ek9 08-31-2010 08:40 AM

i don't forsee myself ever getting rid of my EK9. having my EF has made me appreciate my EK a lot more. my EK hatch is in fact my all-time fav car.

gdoh 08-31-2010 08:46 AM

till it falls apart while driving

Euro7r 08-31-2010 09:01 AM

Drive it till it gives me problems. To the max!

I'll never sell my AE86. Had it for 12 years now so we're pretty much inseparable. My daily driver gets switched up every couple of years.

What do you drive that you're already bored with it?

I'm into year 9 of owning my car and everytime I think of selling it I look around and nothing really interests me, or it is priced too high, or the number of problems scares me away, or the vehicle doesn't have a feature of my car that I like (heated seats, auto dimming mirrors, one touch signals, RWD hatch, glass roof, ...).

So instead of buying a new car, I bought a bike.

Maybe paying HST on every used car purchase will put an end to this :)

10 yrs +
I still have my first car, holding onto it for my midlife crisis so i can relive my youth.

originalhypa 08-31-2010 09:38 AM

Your car is awesome chef.
I miss my little hatch.
:(

Which is why I won't be selling my cars for a while. I love my STi, and now am happy with the new turbo. The Beaumont is in need of a ton of work, which is awesome because I have time to repair it properly now. The Tundra is great, and under warranty for 5 years so I won't have to worry about that. I don't know why I went through over 30 cars in 18 years. Maybe I was looking for something that just wasn't there?

I drive a soarer. I'm not too bored with it but I want a more comfortable daily driving car. Scraping through some speed bumps and ramps aint exactly the best feeling.
Seeing everyones replies, I must get bored of cars easily -___-

That's all cause by your suspension.
You dropped too low & spring too stiff.

I'll driving my car until it give me problem.

Phil@rise 08-31-2010 10:29 AM

I'll be buried in my truck most likely upside down off some logging road or trail. In other words I'll drive it till I'm dead. Most my other cars or trucks I've kept for an average of about two years

q0192837465 08-31-2010 12:00 PM

I've owned my 330 for close to 7 yrs and it still have more features than a lot of new cars. The e46 body is aging really well and it's still a looker to this day.

Harvey Specter 08-31-2010 01:30 PM

3 years max.

PDA_86 08-31-2010 03:35 PM

I always tell people I would drive my car for life, but whenever I get home and start browsing the RS Buy/Sell threads, I get all these tempting ideas.

I'd say averagely 7 years if the car is still in good shape.
