Watch out for the optical illusion in West Van

Quote:

Motorists travelling on 22nd Street in West Vancouver will be confronted with a 3D image of a little girl chasing a ball in the street starting next Tuesday.

The display, which costs $15,000 to run, will be installed in a school zone on 22nd Street, just north of Inglewood Avenue, and very close to École Pauline Johnson Elementary School. It will be in place for one week.

The 3D image will look like an indistinguishable mark from far away, but by the time the driver is within 30 metres, the image of the girl and ball will become clear.

What a way to spend $15,000 and possibly cause more accidents with an inexperienced driver... especially when testing is done near a school zone. Some idiot is going to swerve off the road and take out god knows what.

Groot 09-02-2010 10:36 PM

geez...wtf are they smoking?

Tokemon 09-02-2010 10:38 PM

Hope no one gets killed because of the stupid 3D images....

God bless those students.....!

orange7 09-02-2010 11:02 PM

our tax money?????

next thing we know.. another tax will be introduced: the optical illusion tax. Also, the HST will probably apply to this optical illusion tax.

so it's like paying a tax on another tax.

FerrariEnzo 09-02-2010 11:11 PM

so $15,000 to run per day? or for the whole week??

that image is fucked.. the shoes are big.. the girls clothes are way to light.. its retarded for $15,000...

mmmmmic 09-02-2010 11:20 PM

pedestrians are gonna start getting run over when the drivers think theyre all 3D images.

vafanculo 09-02-2010 11:25 PM

Underglow lights a safety hazard and illegal...
3D images of children running across the street are legal.

Right...

WTF this is absolutely retarded

PiuYi 09-02-2010 11:37 PM

holy fuck this is retarded

cctw 09-02-2010 11:53 PM

what a waste of $15,000...though not as bad as those $80,000 bus stops we had on no.3 road

Shead 09-03-2010 12:46 AM

waste of fucking money, why not spend the tax dollar on fixing more of the shitty roads.

EmOne 09-03-2010 12:59 AM

lawsuit incoming

smoothie. 09-03-2010 01:04 AM

good thought, bad execution.

+1 on drivers thinking real people are those 3d images.

OR an old c lai stopped on the road for hours cause the kid hasnt moved

J____ 09-03-2010 01:17 AM

holy wat a stupid idea.... this is going to cause so much accidents. People will shit their pants, slam on the brakes and swerve into something, or be distracted and stare at it while they drive by head on into something else.

if this was in the states, lawyers will be lining up the day this thing goes live.

redonculous!

rJZx 09-03-2010 02:15 AM

For $15,000 couldn't they get a optical illusion that works? or at least looks cool?

Nightwalker 09-03-2010 03:20 AM

That's a pretty cool idea. Probably right that it'll only be effective the first time, if it's only for a week people will hardly have time to really get used to and lazy on the idea though.

This won't cause a single accident or problem for a competent driver.

That idiot shouldn't be on the road if they overreact. Fail, take away license. Then maybe we'll get higher speed limits.

sonick 09-03-2010 07:35 AM

lol they should put this on #3 Road in Richmond

Slifer 09-03-2010 07:38 AM

They should put a hot naked chick on the street instead.. :D

Berzerker 09-03-2010 07:49 AM

Someone needs to put a Pedobear costume on and go get pic taken with said little girl...

Berz out.

TheNewGirl 09-03-2010 07:55 AM

So this, like those carboard cut outs of kids they put out by schools is just going to make people further jaded to small child sized things on/near street?

Yeaaaahhh smart.

Death2Theft 09-03-2010 09:22 AM

So how many tickets do they have to hand out to recoup 15000?
