Vancouver Police display new armoured vehicle Now THIS is definately going to help us get more bad guys. Like totally. http://media.greenradio.topscms.com/...61369f47b.jpeg http://media.greenradio.topscms.com/...4b2f0fc0d.jpeg VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Vancouver Police Department is showing off its brand new $350,000 armoured rescue vehicle. Police only plan on using it for high-risk situations. The Armoured Rescue Vehicle (ARV) weighs close to 30,000 lbs. and it's bullet-proof. Deputy Chief Adam Palmer says he wishes the Emergency Response Team had this massive truck in 2005, when a man with a shotgun was perched on the Lions Gate Bridge. "During the standoff, the man fired, pulled his weapon over the guard rail and passed the barrel across the location of where the officers were standing. In this situation, the ARV would have provided a safe haven for both the citizens on the bridge as well as responding officers." Palmer explains the ARV will also be used for kidnappings and when police are arresting someone with a high-calibre weapon. Source: http://www.news1130.com/news/local/a...moured-vehicle |
^lol wtf used for kidnappings, i hope that doesnt mean what i think it does |
Who cares if it catches bad guys or not, if it saves a life while being used whether it be officer or civilian, it's worth a lot more than $350,000. |
My homie told me last week in surrey (around the time the guy shot at the cops) there was an entire block sectioned off with nobody able to leave in or go out. I think it was around 72 and 123. Anyway they brought in the "IHIT" team and apparently they had a truck much bigger and longer than this one. Anybody got a pic of that? |

how do they arrest someone using a high calibre weapon with a truck.. run them over? does this have computer aimed stun guns on the outside? i think investment in a sniper is better. do we have them in vancouver? |

They should get one of these too, what with all the 'gang violence': http://img.estadao.com.br/fotos/4E/D...17FF9139BA.jpg It's got a nice observation seat that sticks up from the middle. |

2) This vehicle is designed to be a mobile bunker in case they're in a stand-off with someone who has a high-calibre gun. |
So like... Buddy somehow got a 50 cal to the bank with him, set it up at the entrance and just starts raining death on anyone? So the police just roll up in this bad boy and mow him down? That's about the only time I see this being useful. (the 50cal can be replaced with any other weapon in theory) |

http://bigfishfreeride.com/photo_files/3Tav_large.jpg http://www.vancouversun.com/RCMP+unl...943/story.html Free from the Canadian Forces and retrofitted for police use. and IHIT stands for Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (ie: homicide detectives). The RCMP's ERT - Emergency Responste Team (the 'SWAT' team) would be using these armoured vehicles. |

in any case, yes, they ARE preparing for the worst case scenario. why just plan for what usually happens and be stuck when something worse happens? |
How would this possibly be useful for kidnappings? Does it have heated seats and an espresso machine for the negotiator? |
