Wrong-way driver nabbed travelling 200 km/h
Last Updated: Tuesday, September 7, 2010 | 5:28 PM ET

Police in southwestern Ontario made a daring and dramatic takedown of a vehicle travelling the wrong way at 200 km/h on the country's busiest highway.

Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched at 2 a.m. Monday to stop a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup truck travelling west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Lakeshore.

Police said the vehicle was driving toward oncoming traffic.

Essex County officers positioned their cruisers across the road and laid spike belts on the highway.

The vehicle slowed and then stopped in front of the roadblock but the driver refused to get out of the vehicle, forcing police to remove her themselves.

"If not for the quick and professional actions of the responding officers, this situation could have been more severe, with possible fatal results," Essex OPP Sgt. Rick Tonial said in a release Tuesday.

A 37-year-old Windsor, Ont., woman is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol level over 80 milligrams.

seriously people like this should be locked up for a long time

especially so if they injure or kill someone

DC5-S 09-08-2010 02:00 PM

they should be locked up either way.

TOPEC 09-08-2010 02:20 PM

R they gonna nail her under ontarios street racing laws??

Not really racist! 09-08-2010 02:25 PM

holy fuck at least people weren't injured and nothing happened

locked up for 5 years please.

Hondaracer 09-08-2010 02:26 PM

200km/s an hour? kinda unbelivable

A) my 2004 F150 cant get past 165 basically anywhere on the coquihalla

B) a buddies 2006 TL couldnt get past 170 on the downhill on the coq either

tonyvu 09-08-2010 02:29 PM

^my thoughts exactly

but either way the woman should get jail time for her stupidity

Ch28 09-08-2010 02:30 PM

Too bad she didn't kill herself in the process.

bloodmack 09-08-2010 03:00 PM

she was probably riding on 160km/h, a 96 dodge doing 200km/h on a flat? Lmfao no way, unless it had some mods.

q0192837465 09-08-2010 03:07 PM

man, seriously, her license should be taken away permanently. People with such poor judgement should not be allowed to drive, period.

fliptuner 09-08-2010 03:14 PM

The story would've been just as believable even if she wasn't drunk.

I thought street races required both vehicles to be traveling in the same direction? :D

Crazy woman..

moomooCow 09-08-2010 03:47 PM

^ paraphrasing here, they just have to be racing to arrive at a destination before the other. "home" ;)

shenmecar 09-08-2010 04:13 PM

Why is it hard to believe that a big ass truck with a big ass V8 can do 200km/h?

Because that big ass truck does not have gearing to reach 200km/h, tires rated for 200km/h, or the aerodynamics to hit 200km/h.

160km/h I can believe. 200 is stretching it.

Santofu 09-08-2010 04:37 PM

Is there any video to prove that the truck can go that fast?

bcrdukes 09-08-2010 04:46 PM

200Km/h going the wrong way on the 401? That's like redefining the definition of a Jihad, Canadian style. :lol

Anyway, that's crazy. The 401 is a major artery in the GTA. Nevermind going 200KM/h.

boatcaptain 09-08-2010 04:48 PM

good that the police didn't smash her in the head with the hammer

hud 91gt 09-08-2010 04:58 PM

I don't believe it either, the old work truck wouldn't pass 160ish either(V8 Ram, around that year). I must have pissed off a semi driver as he was chasing me down a northern Manitoba highway.

Probably not, because technically she was travelling 300km/h under the speed limit. :troll:

spoon.ek9 09-08-2010 05:04 PM

how in the hell....

vitaminG 09-08-2010 05:18 PM

i doubt very much if they actually clocked her on radar, so the news prolly just took the number the cops gave them and added 50 km/h to make it sound worse

Vansterdam 09-08-2010 05:20 PM

no way she was going that fast lol stupid either way

racerman88 09-08-2010 05:31 PM

good thing no one got killed

Someone pull a spark plug wire or two on the TL ? How can it not go 170+?

My pathfinder struggled to do 130 on the coquihalla  That was rolling downhill too
