Are you direct connected? Ur ping seems to he all over the place. Try doing a normal ping test to google and see if you are getting consistent number or it's fluating all over the place. If it is there's prolly some issue with the signal to ur place or something

Thanks for the info, guys.

I have 2 telus tv's which are on standby (not turned on). I watch TV maybe once per week and we only have like just the basic-basic channels.

Just tried nabs' suggestion with Speedtest.net right now and I got:
PING: 94ms, DOWNLOAD SPEED: 1.93MBps, UPLOAD SPEED: 0.72Mbps

Tried again:
PING: 13ms, DOWNLOAD SPEED: 1.19MBps, UPLOAD SPEED: 0.57Mbps

I think I am below average?

I will try another test later with the TV's unplugged :(

I originally had this problem. I spoke to customer care regarding this and they transferred me to loyalty. There, they upped my package to the 15Mb package. So far, two TVs and 4 computers at home and no problems.

I use a wireless imac mostly. No direct connection.

Yea, i'm going to call Telus today to see what's going on. It really feels that something has been downgraded or sth because I noticed the difference the same day I renewed. I could watch Youtube and Vimeo vids with no lag at all, but now I have to wait a few seconds for the video to load.

Ok so I called Telus.

I have two macs: 1 iMac Desktop and 1 Mac Laptop. The telus rep checked everything on his end and said it looked ok. I ran a speedtest.net on the Laptop and it was 13.84mbps download speed! The videos were running at the speed I am used to. I then ran a speedtest on the Desktop and it was a slow 1.84mbps..

So the rep thinks that it's a hardware issue on my iMac Desktop. An aircard busted? He suggested to try to connect the iMac using a direct connection to the router and see if that works.

Just wondering bcr, is the 15mb package only available in some areas? because when i called telus regarding faster net, they said it isn't available in my area :suspicious:

On the Telus page, there are two packages.

Optik High Speed and the other is High Speed Turbo. I have High Speed, which is the 15Mb package.

At the time of my subscription, the Optik TV @ 15Mb package was extra. They probably realized that 5Mb (or whatever it was) wasn't sufficient for TV and Internet.

PM me your phone number, im going to run a speed test from my end... those rates are farrr too low. lol. I think I know what the problem is, the port you are on needs to be reset, you can either call them and ask them to do it, or get me to do it for you. But before you do that, PM me your phone number and i'll check the rates TELUS is seeing and let you know.

I call bullshit! Read my post above. They always try to pin it on the customer that somethign with the customer is busted but more than likely its TELUS provisioning.

anything above the 6Meg (Like the 15 and 25) service uses a different sort of port and card, the "Optik" service is slowly being added in all areas however there are some spotty places where it is not available. So it is likely that it is not available yet.

What I like about telus high speed is the loyalty service. I was notified of a price increase in my service after 2yrs of having a student discount and negotiated a deal for faster internet at $29.95 and then telus decides that I've been a good customer and put back down to $19.95 but maintained my highspeed deal sweet!

ok update:

So with the help and guidance of nabs, I called Telus again and explained the situation. We did the typical testings at speedtest.net and telus.com/tech.

With the cable hooked up directly from the modem to the desktop (and I didn't know there was that iMac option till my wife whipped out the cable!), it was reading about 13mbps download. With the cable unplugged (aka wireless), it was reading about 2mbps download. So telus rep and I were scratching our heads. I thought for sure he was going to attribute it to likely that my aircard has failed.. again.

As a final option, the Telus rep changed my router channel from "11" to "6" and that did it! Everything was back to normal again!

Youtube, vimeo... loads up fine! Speedtest.net shows 14mbps wirelessly!

ping: 13ms, download:13.11mbps, upload: 1.07mbps

Yes...we are back in business!

nabs, thanks for the tips and your help in all this.
