i use teksavvy...line lease from telus but with a 200Gb limit....try it...you have to buy your own modem though (around 40 bux)

telus doesn't enforce their own limits anyways though, and you can get 15mbit through them. Only time I've gotten an email about my bandwidth for the month was when i was 250% over my limit.

Teksavvy isn't really worth bothering with unless you want to get multiple lines and bond them together for higher upload. Or if you don't have a home phone, i think i remember someone saying teksavvy is a good deal if you need a dry run.

telus is like only good for not enforcing bandwidth caps

I work for Telus and the chances of our internet dropping is dependent on the equipment in your area as well as who does the install

however if the lines are all good and you get a legit installer than you should see speeds of around 12.8-14.5 depending on distance away from our office.

the deal Telus called you about isnt actually a deal at all since you get 5 bucks off for every service you have with us (phone/internet would be 10 off)

what I recommend is to call Telus and say Shaw offered you a better deal and unless they can beat it they shouldnt expect your business, this will most likely net you either 3 months free or 6 months depending on who you are talking too and how good u can convince them.

2 good points about Telus

1) No bandwidth enforcement

2) Constant rate of speed

Shaw speed is dependent on who else has Shaw in your area

I always thought Telus was pretty strict on b/w usage. Unless that's changed recently.

landline services you can get around contracts as well but you have to have been a long time customer however no contract will lessen the deals you can get for sure.


Nope, as far as I know there is no department that does this in NA maybe outsourced but the communication between our off shores department and the local one is terrible... like really terrible

Odd I keep hearing how ppl get warned when they exceed their download limits.

Is there a way to check up on the speed of my Telus Internet? I recently resigned with Telus and I got a kick ass Telephone-Internet-TV deal but since that day, it seems like websites and videos run a lot slower. Even got a new router in and swapped it, same thing.

telus - internet and tv is shared.. when a tuner is on, it takes up about 5mbps per tuner
shaw - independent for tb and internet

i work at shaw p/t, but stuck with a telus 3 y contract..
from my point of view, shaw is better with tv and internet. shaw has no contact as well
shaw has more channels and speed is suber fast with the 50/100mbps resident package. wifi modems, i would choose there cisco ones over the SMC

while telus phones have more historical data for information. ie call ID.

Same here.. i was quoted 15mbps.. and im getting like 1-2..(bullshit yes i know) probably gonna complain soon or get a student package

each tv tuner sucks up about 5mbps.. so if you have optik 15 and 2 tvs, it can potentially knock it down to 5 mbps for internet.

I have Shaw and Telus. Telus is pretty consistent at around 13-14mb/s. Shaw varies widely from 2-3mb/s up to 28 mb/s, which is really pissing me off lately (it used to be far more consistent at 20-25mb/s).

my household has it at bundled price $57 for 25mbps
seems like a complete rip off on paper when compared to shaw
but it's consistent, no b/w cap enforcement...and i can get advertised speed (slightly faster upload than advertised)

i work for telus on the network infrastructure side of things, we always use speedtest.net vancouver/burnaby servers to test our speeds as it is reliable enough with a close enough server.

try testing with no tuners on, one tuner on, so on so forth and record your speeds. Upload speeds should be constant, unless your on 25 uploads capped at 4megs i believe. If you are on a 15 meg service, for 3 bucks more upgrade to 25 meg service, i always recommend people do this, its well worth it, and you can also watch more HD channels at one time.

Telus also has its own way of testing speeds however its a little wierd if you ask me.. you can go to ftp.telus.net and navigate to pub, then to size-test, it only works for download speeds.

I have 2 telus tv's which are on standby (not turned on). I watch TV maybe once per week and we only have like just the basic-basic channels.

Just tried nabs' suggestion with Speedtest.net right now and I got:
PING: 94ms, DOWNLOAD SPEED: 1.93MBps, UPLOAD SPEED: 0.72Mbps

Tried again:
PING: 13ms, DOWNLOAD SPEED: 1.19MBps, UPLOAD SPEED: 0.57Mbps

I think I am below average?

I will try another test later with the TV's unplugged :(

that depends on what plan you are on....
my guess is either 3mpbs or 6mpbs down?
