Didnt see this today so sorry about that. It's pretty good get to see a little bit of each and every sector and the week long projects are fun with a little theory mixed in. I say it's worth it overall.

It's pretty steep indeed, apparently the gov't pays 50% of the course price also from what few of the instructors stated.

Oh. Cause most people tell me. Avoid the course and just get hired somewhere. The course is a waste of time.
But since govt pays. Hmm

Honestly either way works imo, depends on your past experiences also. If you know how to thread pipe, solder copper, basic welding, basic blueprint reading, and use of tools, than you should be fine in the field. Its just nice for the employer also because he wouldn't need to teach you all the basics since you get the concept and may only need a refresher.

Also one more thing , it's nice that you can screw up and not cause any real damage.

For those looking for experience of xyz programs, r/bcit might be able to give you a quicker answer. There's more traffic there.

Going to do a teaching course there that's on the weekends. What's the best way to get there? Where could I park? I don't mind a bit of walk.

You can park anywhere that's not restricted 24/7. Parking is $5.25 all day. Altentatively there are buses that go directly to BCIT. There's also free parking for two hours at the neighboring park.

You go to BCIT??? Yessir, that's likely to be me. I don't remember which one is SE14, is that the one attached to the library and above tims? I parked in the SE6/Tims Lot, which is close to Tims, between a white newer BMW sedan and a silver matrix.

LOL I think I recall seeing a golf with a vanity plate, and thinking "oh isn't that someone from rs", but it didn't click. Now has anyone spotted Gerbs or LP?

Sorry, late to reply, but yes. It's a good program and they really drill the discipline in to their students to maintain quality. Depends which shop you end up after you graduate, or the path you take, but I've seen some good results coming out of the program.

I apologize in advance to any part time business students that I may offend. Those who have always been doing part time, how did you guys figure out group work? I'm finding it hard to respect PT business students, even now that I'm in PT, bc all of these pt students are bitching and complaining about not having enough time to do assignments (2-3 courses) on top of work. When I was in FT, some people, myself included, were able to work a job on top of our FT course load (8-12 courses). I'm finding myself particularly frustrated, bc all these people want to do the project half assed, when it's really not that hard.

I think I've gotten used to the fact that by level 2, all the dimwits and lazy assholes got kicked out of full time. So by Level 2 and 3, all the people who knew what it took to get shit done, were the only people left.

I specified business students bc business is probably one of the easiest programs at BCIT. And I'd rather not generalize all PT students as lazy dimwits.

I find that PT students have other priorities, as opposed to FT students. For FT students, you are doing this day in, day out, whereas PT students are doing something else, and their studies are second. Sometimes, it is what it is. You'll have to use your angst to bring up the calibre of work for the PT'ers.

Yeah I'm finding that I really have to "crack the whip" to get things done. I generally don't like being THAT person bc I want everyone to input and have a chance to input. But it seems much more effective to just say, "do xyz by abc date and xx:xx time".

Look on the bright side. You're developing leadership skills, albeit indirectly, and somewhat micromanagement level type of skills haha. On the flip side. some people need to be told directly what to do, especially if their priorities are elsewhere.

I don't know the demographic of these PT students, but in the evening classes, the adult PT students are in it to win it. They don't fuck around, and are some of the most driven people I have ever met. Often, you'd get your ass handed to you, and then some, if anyone fucks around.

Maybe it's just business.

I hope they close school tomorrow - before I leave the house. But knowing BCIT, it'll probably be open at 5:30am, then when we're at school already, THEN they'll decide to close.

As a graduate of one of their PT business programs and a former FT student beforehand, my experience was exactly what you observed.

I switched to PT due to finding a salaried career before I had finished. It was difficult to find hard workers, and often I'd have no choice but to be paired up with shitty students because most instructors pair you up randomly due to the fact that "in the real world, you won't have a choice regarding who you work with".
You'll find that most students are cliquey international students who are often passed through these courses with their poor work ethic masked by group projects and the "ESL" factor, or they're just lazy bums.

Do your best to play through the group work politics-- Peer evaluation will be your best friend.
