OK, called in and asked if I can get better rates, no. Got transfered to cancellation, I tell him I want to reduce my rates, he tells me can can give me more speed for same money. I tell him I want better rate, otherwise I'm switching to Telus cuz they are cheaper, then he starts comparing why their service is better. I tell him cancel then if you can't do better. He tells me that I will lose any promos. I asked him what promos, all you have been doing for me is the raising the prices for the last 5 years. I told him to cancel.

I can get Telus internet (15mb) and TV for $30/month (+5 for a digitial box) for the first year, currently paying Shaw ~$50 month.

WIll see what other companies have internet ...

Telus' customer service is TERRIBLE. My grandparents are with them and recently moved, in order to get the internet working again I had to run some stupid online setup thing from Telus again (it would always redirect me to the Telus page, and not actually let me go online? wtf?) But in order to run the setup, you have to completely turn off the security in your browser because Telus hasn't got their little setup program signed, so even if you click allow it won't fucking run (grandparents only have IE) which is a hassle because it's only easy to bring the settings down to medium.

At least this time I got a north american tech on the phone, but they were still useless.

i called a few days ago...they were canvas'ing the area....so i called and said how come i didn't get a sweet promo deal...the deal i got was

for $80/month for 1 yr.
-HD plus
-free PVR
-Phone w L/D.
-extreme speed
-free wireless N router

But they won't since they know 98% of the people that threaten to leave will stay with them. They know there no one else you could go to that would provide the level of service that they have.

Vancouver downtown is different coz NOVUS offer faster Internet and cable and is cheaper than SHAW on regular rate. So what does SHAW do? DRIVE OUT anyone that can compete with them by offering service at a lose in those areas.

Funny thing though the gov changes a law last year that lets a company offer different pricing in different area right after the 10/10/10 deal came out. Before then companies isn't allow to offer service at different rates in general service area but that has change coz of the price war between SHAW and NOVUS last year. Also, around that time any company can not offer services or deals as below cost in order to drive out competetion. Of coz that law have been change last year as well.

Makes us wonder does the gov really protect the small business like they said or did the big guys paid them off?

EDIT and yes I work for NOVUS. And just a note on those who call in for deals. If you are rude or have been asking for promos after promos after promos more than likely you won't get any. If you are nice and seems happy at what we offer you the first time or never had promos or just never really had any promos for a few years I will certain give you some slack. But keep calling and bugging us won't do you any good. ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO GOT DISCONNECTED FOR NON-PAY WHEN YOUR BILL IS ONLY LIKE $30 A MONTH. Is only $30 pay up lol.

I work in the customer service industry and agree with you fully when it comes to being polite. As bad as it sounds, I would help/go the extra mile for a polite client than a rude one.

At my home, we used to get
1)Basic + tier 1 + Fairchild
2)home phone basic + call ID
3)Shaw Lite speed

all for $112.90

After reading this thread, decided to give retentions a try
After being VERY POLITE, I got:

1)basic + tier 1-3 + Fairchild (and standardl HD)
2)home phone basic + call ID + unlimited Canadian LD
3)Shaw Extreme

for $87!!!
So happy. The retetion guy was great too. Very polite and patient.

Thank you Shaw!

im going to give it a shot and see what i get

do you just call their customer service? and ask to transfer to retention??

thanks

k2_alpha 10-18-2010 08:19 PM

I called into customer service and played dumb.
Simply told them that I have been with Shaw for a long time and was looking for a break.
Told them I felt what I was paying was too much for the service I was getting.

First rep transferred me to "client services"
Told the rep exactly what I told the first rep.

I used a random retentions deal in this thread as a reference.

trip 10-18-2010 08:46 PM

things to consider:

not everyone will get a discount/promo
more services you have, works in your favor.. example: cable/net.. add phone services too and its easier for shaw to hook you up
pay your bills on time
been a customer for a long time
be pleasant/courteous and polite

dmm 10-18-2010 10:50 PM

Ever since I cancelled my internet service (about 30 days to go), my modem has been locking up (not passing traffiic), have to reset it and good to go again for about a day. Co-incidence?

trip 10-19-2010 04:32 AM

is a company going to exact its revenge on you, a single person when just one employee can sign 1-2 new internet services per day

Spidey 10-19-2010 06:27 AM

they can afford to give you a discount if they wanted... i mean if you are a new customer, they give you crazy deals.. and the loophole is that you can renew every 6 months if you live with someone... ie.. every 6 months just switch back and forth and you will get the promos... i was paying about 100-115 (cant erally remember) for hi speed basic tv and digital... and hd plus... now i am paying 40? but that is for the first year i think.. after that, i will just switch over from my gf's name to mine... OR threaten to go to telus/bell first.. the competition has increased lately esp with bell's big sponsor during olympics.

dmm 10-20-2010 01:54 AM

Was someone here a CSR or tech? someone have technical background about Shaw?

So when my modem disconnects, I either have to pull out the power and reset the modem, or pull the cable line and wait for the status lights to clear, then conenct back up and all is good.

Read somewhere this may be a head end or RF issue somewhere? Note that I have a 2nd modem that I borrowed off a friend, and is also experiencing similar issues.

terkan 10-20-2010 09:20 PM

it's possible that u have RF issue if ur modem is connecting and disconnecting randomly.. but borrowing ur friends modem probably wouldn't work.. coz it's not provisioned properly..

trip 10-20-2010 11:27 PM

i think my hd box is fucked. every week it will stop getting a signal and no channels are accessible while my other tvs with a regular dct700 are working fine

any idea terkan?

gars 10-26-2010 11:45 AM

anybody here on Optik?

can you run a speedtest, to see what kind of speeds you can get WHILE someone else is watching the tv...?

I wonder just how much bandwidth you really lose...

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-26-2010 12:18 PM

fuck after reading u guys review this looks like a long way road...dont think im gonna bother calling

besides 6-12 moths is pretty lame, should be permanent for as long as you stay with them.

This is a totally different ball game than Rogers retention where its actually negotiable to a certain degree.

i remember i was on the phone with shaw about a year ago and they wouldnt move an inch.
:bullshit:

actually it wasnt that long of a road when i did mine. i just called their CS line (604-629-8888) and told them that i thought i was paying too much and that although someone tried to convince me to go to telus, including telus(i proceeded to quote the telus 10/10/10 deal) i thought id give them a call to see if they can lower my bill.

they transferred me right away to their customer loyalty or care line, whatever its called, and the guy cut my bill in half right away. he said even though my new plan is only valid for a year, including my HDPVR rental, i can call back when its up and just renew it again, and by then, they might even have cheaper deals to give.

just give it a try, doesnt hurt, and you wont lose anything by trying.

call the shaw tech support line, and just tell them everything thats going wrong, they will stay on the line while they walk you through some steps, and keep telling them that nothings working.

they will eventually give up and schedule an appt for a shaw tech to come and swap out your HD box with a new one, granted that your box is currently under the 3 yr warranty

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-26-2010 01:56 PM

just called them

gonna drop from $115 plus taxes to $94 plus taxes

but before $115 was whole bunch of tv channels and internet

now $94 will include, telephone, tv, and internet

plus more channels

if two modems are having the same problems, then it's most likely a signal issue

have you tried connecting to a different outlet?

power cycle your modem and try again

MikeyStyle 10-29-2010 10:26 AM

.

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-29-2010 11:15 AM

sorry what does power cycle my modem means

did you mean router? or modem

turn off and reset?

TOPEC 10-29-2010 02:58 PM

power cycle means unplug the device from power, wait 30sec to a min and plug it back in.
in this case, power cycle ur modem means pull ur modem.

Cassijon 09-19-2011 02:45 PM

has anyone had any luck in renewing their shaw promo deals? my current triple play promo is expiring nov 1 and would rather stay with shaw than go to telus, but if shaw doesnt renew, no choice but to switch.
