shaw retentions

was surfing the web, and prior to today, had NO IDEA that shaw had retention plans. was always under the assumption that shaw was non-negotiable

called shaw to see if there was anything they could do for me as my monthly bills were quite high

this is what i had before:

digital phone,
unlimited north america calling
voicemail
call waiting
conference calling etc

high speed internet

Full Digital cable package with movie central and superchannel
full HD package (all HD channels)

for $204 + HST

after talking them today,

got the same services i had before except for superchannel and am paying $100 + HST

THANK YOU SHAW!

Guess you got lucky. Many others have tried and got nothing. From what I understand, even if you threaten to walk, they're happy to let you walk rather than give a retention plan.

Marioo1991 09-14-2010 01:31 PM

This is what I have:
-Digital phone w/ Voicemail and Call Waiting
-Digital TV w/ HBO&movie channels
-High-Speed Internet

I was paying around $140+HST before. Called in and threatened to switch to Telus and they were able to bump my bill down to $95+HST, but only for 6 months. I pushed for a year but no luck. I guess they'll be hearing from me in another 6 months then :)

TOPEC 09-14-2010 09:16 PM

shaw is really hard to negotiate with, cause they know they're good and their main point is no contract. i myself tried TWICE in negotiating even for a small deal, but they still give me any deals, until my friend started working there in retentions.

now im getting
HD Basic
Extreme Internet
Digital Phone Lite

total comes up to 108

i used to pay 140 for HD + Extreme only.

from what i read online, the easiest way to get a deal is to actually call and tell them to cancel service in 10-15 days because ur switching providers, then within those 10-15 days, the retentions department SHOULD call u and offer u deals to stay with them. IF they dont call back 2 or so days before ur cancelation date, u would have to call back and say u want to stay with them.

Euro7r 09-14-2010 09:27 PM

I've always wanted to try to call and see if I can bump my monthly bill down. Paying around $120 for Basic cable, High speed internet and digital phone.

Guess I'll give it a shot, since I have nothing to lose anyways, since some of you guys managed to get your monthly bill knocked down. Already a bitch to pay so much.

bigrig 09-14-2010 09:38 PM

i just called them and referenced the 10/10/10 deal that telus was offering, and that ultimately, i was paying too much per month with them (shaw)

i quoted a deal that shaw had, that i found on RFD, and he said the best thing he could do i pretty much give me %50 off what i was paying since ive never gotten any credits or bonuses.

i guess its luck of the draw when dealing with them.

good luck guys!

JulyZerg 09-16-2010 08:32 PM

^ any link to the RFD thread?

thx!

_Hotsauce_ 09-16-2010 10:07 PM

Telus requires a contract and from past experiences has fucking shitty customer service.

I'm going to call shaw and give the 10/10/10 deal a shot and tell them I'm paying too much LOL. I want to get this down to below $100buxs/month. Ridiculous paying so much.

Euro7r 09-16-2010 10:48 PM

Is the 10/10/10 still valid and going on? I don't want to call shaw and tell them about it and realize it doesn't exist anymore because the promotion expired.

ilvtofu 09-16-2010 11:08 PM

Yeah just called last week for my GF and guy wouldn't really discount even after I had told him that going with telus would save me $20-30 a month, he ended up giving me a $10 discount on fairchild and upgrading me to one step up for the internet speed but doesn't really feel any different. Still, bill is too much. I think I'll get her to make the switch soon.

Was essentially for downtown residents only. Meant to compete with Novus. Was flat out told that because I cannot get Novus in Surrey, I am not eligible for the deal.

Do you know how long the note will stay on there for?

When I first got shaw a few years ago, I called in and got my monthly charges reduced by at least 25% for the same length of time - 6 months. Then it jumped back up and I didnt bother calling again till now. It's probably been just over a year since its been at the same amount.

Armind 09-29-2010 12:58 PM

Does anyone know if I add home phone to my current basic cable + shaw extreme, will i get a better deal or will they just give me a bundled pricing? I'm planning to switch to hd or digital tv also.

MASTER_J 09-30-2010 02:53 PM

if you have notes on ur account it's permenate.. i should rephrase it.. those that keep calling back asking for promo are the ones that will get the NO MORE PROMO code on their acc. and usually the retentions.. it's not a permante plan.. i seldom see a permanate retention plan.. it's usually 12 month promo only.. ie the 1yr free hdpvr rental.. is a retention only promo.. and whether or not they give you a discount.. also depends on several things.. if you have been with shaw for a while.. and always on time paying your bill.. have a better chance of getting a retention promo over a guy that's always late on payment.. but been with shaw for a while.. same with ppl that company hop every yr after their promo runs out.. i hope you guys have lots of fake ID.. coz even after you account close.. it remains on file forever.. it's shaw's way of making sure you don't owe them money before..~

Anyone know if there are retention package for just internet? That's all I want, but but they just raised rates again, and tempted now to switch to Telus as I can get on a 15/15 plan, still be cheaper than Shaw.

suzuka84 10-07-2010 08:50 PM

shaw will offer the $30 all-in deal if you walk

terkan 10-07-2010 10:19 PM

Mr.HappySilp 10-07-2010 10:49 PM

If you look on SHAW's website about last year annual earnings is I think 50% of your bill is pure profit. So yea they could give you 25% off your bill and still make a ton of money off you. But they won't since they know 98% of the people that threaten to leave will stay with them. They know there no one else you could go to that would provide the level of service that they have.

Vancouver downtown is different coz NOVUS offer faster Internet and cable and is cheaper than SHAW on regular rate. So what does SHAW do? DRIVE OUT anyone that can compete with them by offering service at a lose in those areas.

Funny thing though the gov changes a law last year that lets a company offer different pricing in different area right after the 10/10/10 deal came out. Before then companies isn't allow to offer service at different rates in general service area but that has change coz of the price war between SHAW and NOVUS last year. Also, around that time any company can not offer services or deals as below cost in order to drive out competetion. Of coz that law have been change last year as well.

Makes us wonder does the gov really protect the small business like they said or did the big guys paid them off?

EDIT and yes I work for NOVUS. And just a note on those who call in for deals. If you are rude or have been asking for promos after promos after promos more than likely you won't get any. If you are nice and seems happy at what we offer you the first time or never had promos or just never really had any promos for a few years I will certain give you some slack. But keep calling and bugging us won't do you any good. ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO GOT DISCONNECTED FOR NON-PAY WHEN YOUR BILL IS ONLY LIKE $30 A MONTH. Is only $30 pay up lol.
