New Nikons announced!

New Nikons announced!

No D700 replacement announced yet, but there's still Photokina in a few weeks!

Bonjour43MA 09-14-2010 08:38 PM

holy cow Nikon is going nuts these days. Awesome!

This year alone:

D3100
D7000
16-35/4 VR
24-120/4 VR
28-300 VR
55-300 VR
200-400/4 VRII
24/1.4
35/1.4
85/1.4
200/2 VRII

Did I miss anything? That's a shit load of new gear in one year even for a major player like Nikon.

WOW. Color me impressed.

Senna4ever 09-14-2010 08:43 PM

I tried out the new Nikon 85mm f1.4, and it's stunning how good it is. The 35mm f1.4 should blow away the somewhat soft Canon 35L.

Bonjour43MA 09-14-2010 08:47 PM

Now people can't say "If only Nikon had fast professional primes - I'd switch in a heartbeat" anymore... LOL.

Meowjin 09-14-2010 11:40 PM

105 f/2 DC is still a better lens Jason :p

Ugh I need something in my pricerange. I'm hoping evil comes out soon, I'd probably pick that up and the 35mm f/1.4

What? What does the 105 f2 DC have anything to do with the 35mm f1.4?

...but since you mentioned it, the Sony 135mm f2.8 STF is even better.

Meowjin 09-15-2010 11:09 AM

oh i was comparing it to the 85mm f/1.4

man I miss my 105 :(

gilly 09-15-2010 11:14 AM

Oh, I see. The new 85mm f1.4 is amazing. I did a little comparison with it on a D3x, and the Canon 85mm f1.2L on a 5DmkII, and the Nikon is visibly sharper with higher contrast and less CA. I'll post up the results later.

Are you a current or past Langara student? If so, I suggest you go to the big party in October. ;)

The D7000 fits in between the D90 and the D300s. The D90 has not been discontinued....at least for now.

Oh good... I don't feel as bad now with my D90

The big box stores like Black's and Future Shop have been clearing out their D90's in the past week though.

Senna4ever 09-15-2010 08:31 PM

I don't blame them. It looks like the D7000 is going to cannibalize D300s sales too.

LiquidTurbo 09-15-2010 10:04 PM

It's bound to be a super solid camera. Not worth an upgrade if you already have a D90 IMO...

Meowjin 09-16-2010 01:25 AM

nikon's camera released honestly confuse me. Since I have 0 camera gear, I think I might be switching over to sony when I do get some money in january.

IMASA 09-16-2010 05:57 AM

dang, so tempted to get a d7000. My only beef is the SD cards.....I got quite a few udma cf's. I'd hate to dump those and buy all new sd cards.

sd cards literally cost pennies.

I like the new 35mm F1.4G, but I truly think Nikon rushed the release.

With Zeiss and Samyang announcing the 35mm F1.4, Nikon basically announced it to keep Nikon loyalists waiting for the 35mm. See how fast we have the 85G between announcement and store availability? And yet Nikon don't expect to ship this lens until 2 month later.

Bonjour43MA 09-16-2010 06:11 PM

lol I know two people at work that are pre-ordering the D7000. This is like the perfect camera for them; one's coming from a D70s and the other from a D80.

If the IQ can deliver then I think Nikon's got another hot-seller for the x'mas season.

Nikon could really make a scene if they announced a cheaper FX body that's under $2000, with D3s' sensor in the current D700 body. Now THAT will sell like hot cakes too.
