I have optik tv and I love it. I have 2 HD signals coming to my house. No issues what so ever and my internet is blistering fast, over 10mbit with both tv's on.
Basically they give you a new modem, which is connected to their dlink router. Each tv will then get a digital receiver, which can be connected via RJ45 or Co-ax (I recommend RJ45). Their router is a wireless gateway too, so you can connect your other devices wirelessly.

I'm curious what the bandwidth usage is per TV. Can you run a speedtest.net with no TV's on, then again with both TV's on, on 2 different HD channels?
From what I have been reading online, if a vdsl profile is available to you, you could get up to 26Mbit pipe to your house, but only 15 (speedtest shows 15) is usable for the internet, and the rest is allocated to your tv. (Don't quote me on this, just what i've read) Of course your tv takes bandwidth away from your internet if it needs it, but I have been downloading from usenet at 17MB/s constant for the last few days, it dips down a bit when the tv's are on.
They will send somebody over to bring the STBs and router/modem and do the install for u
i been on Telus Optik for over half a year now... it's better compared to their old IPTV or even Shaw's HD
i can have up to 2 HD and 2 SD signals at once with decent bandwidth remaining for our computers... the channel surfing and guide are far quicker than Shaw and the picture quality is also nicer... The drop of bandwidth on internet isn't noticeable unless I'm using both HD signals and an SD at once.. they have updates quite often too, the biggest con for me right now is no HDNet
and paying $85/month inc. tax for Telus Optik TV/Internet/Phone and also subscribed to their HD, Sports HD and chinese channels for the parents as well

Is the modem connected through a cable or phone line? And if I wanted to, can I connect my internet through wire?
i work to telus and do these installs all the time
we connect the modem up like normal thru the telephone but now we will install the modem near a coax jack and fed the TV signal thru coax or as metion before make RJ45 runs around the house and feed the TV that way.
there are 2 profiles right now one is 15mb the other is 26mb. If you can only get the 15mb than you will only be able to get 1 HD and 1 sd stream where the 26mb will allow you 2 HD streams and 2 SD streams
Alot of people are confusing our Optik service for our old IPTV service, they arent the same at all. The old IPTV service was one we tried to develop and failed completely IMO but the new Optik TV is actually a system from the US that was created by geuss who Microsoft. You can google it if you want its refered to as meidaroom.

How would I know if the connection be 15Mb/s or 26Mb/s if I went with Optik TV?
Im guessing if you go to the telus website and check the availability in your area, it tells you if you can either get 2 HD signals or 1. From that you can figure out which profile you can get.

Nope, it only tells me if my area can install Optik TV, it doesn't go to the length of telling me if I can watch 2 HD or 1 HD feed at the same time, which is the icebreaker for me if I would ever consider switching over to Optik TV.
us techs can find out by input ur phone number but other than that there no way for a customer to find out without calling in

i recommend calling saying that shaw offered you this what can Telus do
they will most likely tell you that someone will call you or redirect you to outgoing sales which can offer so crazzy ass deals. I heard one customer got all channels and all services for 90 a year

hey c_loke, i know this is an older thread but is there any way you can still do the speed test for us?
seriously considering to changing to optik cause of the promo right now, but just a little iffy on internet speed with tv running.

Curious if anyone's using Windows Media Center with Optik. I've been using it for years with Shaw but never bothered with their digital cable because they don't allow you to plug the cable directly into a digital tuner card to use Media Center's PVR capabilities.
I'm looking to make the switch in the upcoming months and figured if the XBox can be used as a tuner, I figure Media Center can be used as well because they all share the same technology.
