high traffic location ?

The only high traffic location around that area is RiverRock Parking lot entrance.

murd0c 09-19-2010 05:39 PM

wow thats a real rip off, you could fly to vegas and stay in a hotel while doing the same flight package cheaper then a couple packs up there.

If you want to skydive go do it, I went 10yrs ago and it was awesome!!

fliptuner 09-19-2010 05:43 PM

Real deal for me thanks

Nightwalker 09-19-2010 05:47 PM

It's absolutely not an alternative to skydiving (unless you never will skydive and want to feel like you are), but it is super cool. I'd love to do that!

I went skydiving for the first time last month and I'm going again next weekend. First jump course to jump by myself was $199, my jump next weekend is only $75. Only from 3,000 feet though, no freefall. I have to work my way up if I want to jump from 10,000 and get the freefall experience.

murd0c 09-19-2010 05:52 PM

^ I did that exact same one and it was awesome.

Really? $200 to jump alone? Don't you need to jump tandem first prior to jumping alone?

murd0c 09-19-2010 06:08 PM

the chute opens right away so you just have to take the toggles to guide your self down. You can go to places that your strapped to someones chest and free fall as well but I really liked having my own control.

In the top right corner of the pic, you can see the orange ball that's the ripcord for my chute. It's in the instructors hand (he has blue gloves on). So you don't really freefall very far before the chute opens. The ripcord is pulled as soon as you go.

It's an all day course to prep for doing it, it helped a lot. By the end when we jumped, I felt confident in knowing what to do. Which is good because it's pretty damn hard to think about what you're doing once you let go of the plane and start plummeting to the earth.

Alatar 09-19-2010 06:43 PM

The highest skydive area is actually just outside San Jose, CA. A friend of mine did it a couple weeks ago, tandem, and had a blast. I think it was ~150 USD for him.

jello24 09-19-2010 07:49 PM

awesome. a few blocks from my work. that would be a killer way to de-stress.

BrRsn 09-19-2010 08:04 PM

60 minutes for $750 is more than most high end escorts cost. You tell me which way you'd rather de-stress =\

J____ 09-19-2010 08:13 PM

holy thats pricey, it would be cheaper to get a round trip flight to San Diego and sky dive there than to do a 1 hour session "fake" sky diving here.... what are they thinking.

whateverman 09-19-2010 08:51 PM

It's in Richmond no honger gonna go, its gonna mess up their hair

Vansterdam 09-19-2010 08:55 PM

Gh0stRider 09-19-2010 08:59 PM

750? no thx

You might be surprised. I know a lot of people that drive from all over southern Ontario all the way to Montreal to use the wind tunnel there (the next closest one is in New Hampshire). There's a remarkable demand for it, and the high operating costs keeps the number of tunnels few and far between. I have no doubt that the tunnel will see business from Washington and Alberta as well as skydivers and other people from around BC.

Yeah, definately not an alternative to skydiving but an awesome supplement. Time in the tunnel makes a huge difference practicing position and maneuvers for freefall if you do actually skydive. Also as another bonus, you can do this year-round and in any weather (I'm not sure whether the DZ's around the lower mainland run all year).

It is definately pricy, but keep in mind that unless you are a very frequent flyer there's no way that you would be physically able to fly for anywhere near an hour. For the average person visiting a wind tunnel, 20 minutes (in at most 5 minute intervals) is already pushing the limits of their physical endurance.

MWR34 09-19-2010 09:13 PM

i think people see the $750 and get scared, but if you can read the packages are $62.50 for 2 - 1 minute sessions or $99.00 for a 4 minute session.

both comes with about an hour of preperation, fitting and instructions etc.

think of how long a 3000 ft skydive? 1 min? and thats with a paracute open.

this is a free fall type experience. I dont think people would want to do this for more than 5-10mins.

You beat me to it.

This isn't for novices to try "simulated" skydiving. This is for serious skydivers who want to practice maneuvers. You know how many jumps you'd have to do to get in 15 minutes of pure free-fall?

isn't it like 30 seconds to a minute from 10,000 feet? :S my uncle uses a wingman suit and he says that he flies around for a few minutes before he has to deploy his chute
