front component help!!!!!!!

recently i got Alpine Type S speakers all around for my DC5

S component for the front S for the rear.

Now im running a double din JVC deck, it does not have any cross over settings except EQ.

The S speakers is running off the aftermarket deck power without amp. So here is the issue, i notice the front speaker dont make a lot of sound, you can hear the tweeter more. What gives? lack of amp or because lack of cross over

I searched around and found a lot of fellows who are running Type S speakers are impressed without an amp, or without any issues.

So you don't have any passive crossovers for the front speakers? If not then are your tweeters capped off?

The Type S components are decent and are quite efficient. This means that they do not require an amplifier to run unlike a lot of component sets. That said, running them off an amplifier would still make them sound louder, clearer and also give you a bit more versatility when tuning them (if the amp has decent crossovers/EQ built in). Furthermore, the tiny passive inline crossover that these sets come with are pretty basic with no attenuation adjustments on them for the tweets.

To save money you can replace the small inline crossover with a larger one with attenuation settings on it so you can manually adjust the tweeter. The drawback is that the larger crossover will require more power and heat up more than the basic one you have. Of course amping them is always a better idea - especially if you can do an active set-up and remove the crossovers alltogether.

thx a lot mike for the quick response, i dropped by last week but you werent there. Keith was able to help me tune the deck, but i felt the highs were a bit too high for my liking.


I found out rewiring the speaker to a proper amp is kind of out of my league, will require $400-500 to rewire plus the cost of an amp. I'd get even better speakers if i were going to go all out. Our JVC NX does not have the ability to tune cross over, basically nothing other than EQ setting

ughhhh i just realize those cigar looking like wires are not for the front mid, they are for the tweeters! i never isntalled those because when i put it on they make statics sound for the mid, but they are suppose to be paired up for the tweeter. damn

I thought the Alpine Type-S's have a X-over?

I think it's an inline xover. By the sounds of it, seems like the woofers are out of phase. I've installed quite a few of the Type-S's. They're alright speakers, and should sound quite bassy even off deck power. Might not be able to turn it up too loud without it clipping though.

Whoops after re-reading your msg. Looks like you hooked up the tweeter crossovers for the woofers. Looking on the Alpine website, the woofers have the x-over attached to them. FYI the cigar looking thing is a crossover (aka x-over). It basically cuts certain frequencies. So if you're tweeter xovers are hooked up to the woofers, it makes sense why there's no mid bass. You're tweeters are probably sounding pretty bad playing full range also
