^My beef is when people are driving in slower than traffic rate in the HOV! If you're going to drive that slow, why the fuck do you need to be in the HOV lane!?

I was reading up on this a while back and thought I found a link somewhere on the BCMOT or ICBC site for this.

Inside the Lower Mainland, the signs read "Slower Traffic Keep Right", while outside, most highways read "Keep Right except to pass".

I forget the exact words but my understanding is that in the GVRD they actually don't want people sticking to the R of the highway as the L lane now sits empty as opposed to holding more cars.

With that said though, I personally keep R unless I'm entering a merge point (with a ton of cars trying to get onto the highway) or it's rush hour, in which case every lane is open season.

Technically, if the speed limit is so and so then there's really no need to pull over because he is driving the maximum allowed speed.
Everyone else behind him who wants him to go into the right lane will be speeding.
But seriously, nobody obeys the speed laws so people get super pissed

does not matter if others will be breaking law or not (thats their business), its courtesy to move out of the way. Unless you have no where to go due to high volume traffic, you should move out of the way and avoid confrontation

Yes people will speed and moving over is considered the right thing to do but the root of the problem is speeders. Careless drivers usually late for work or just impatient. These are the kind of drivers that give driving a bad name and are a big reason why accidents happen.

If we all followed the rule use the left lane to pass only we wouldn't be getting very far.. imagine the #1hwy it would be packed 24/7. What if theres 3 lanes? Also I see ALOT of signs that say slower cars keep right. Does that mean faster cars use the left lane rather than the right?

HOV lane isnt for speeding... its for vehicles with 2 or more.

If you were being completely legalistic, then, since the fastest you're allowed to drive is the speed limit, going 50 in the left lane would be no problem. No law will explicitly tell you to break the speed limit, not even the 'slower traffic keep right' laws.

Now, if you weren't young, naive and legalistic, you would know that your original post is simply retarded because that isn't the way the world works, and you would be causing more problems by driving the limit in the left lane.

Heres how it is, You are always considered slower traffic unless if you are passing. However this does not apply to rush hour. In the city both lanes are travel lanes. The left lane is used if you plan to turn left eventually and the right for if you will be turning right eventually.
