Nanaimo Construction I was wondering what are your thoughts. And also, does anyone know if they will repave the whole strip of road they nicely butchered up or will they just fill it in like they currently have, and call it quits. |
holy fuck, i went through that shit yesterday and was shitting my pants |
whats going on there? its been going on for a while now |

The roads are hella bumpy. It was one of my main commute roads, but ever since that crap has been happening, I always try to avoid it by using Grandview hwy and Rupert. |
my parents have a new house being built right in front of the construction... only plus is that the construction will definitely be done by the time the house is built... |
its pretty ridiculous. i hope they smooth it out |
Man how long have they been working on that bit?? It seems forever.... and how come they aren't doing it in sections like they usually do? A long ass stretch of Nanaimo is all under construction, all at once... |
41st is even as shitty |
i really hope they do not leave the road like this without a final repaving. the bumps are horrible and all the frequent lane changes doesnt make it any better too |
^^ just a warning to people driving on 41st 41st and knight, right lane just before the intersection going towards oakridge, HUGE POTHOLE |
the question is why havent they finished any paving yet. There's construction on main and 41st, 41st and vic, burnaby, etc. it's getting ridiculous -_- The nanaimo construction has been going on since march |
Canada Way Eastbound was extremely bumpy, They paved from Burris St. to Edmonds St. I hit about 20 manholes so far. Woooooow. |
for sure the construction is a mess... totally making me detour for my route to SFU I took nanaimo once thinking it would be done after like.. 2 months? i thought my car would fall apart halfway through, no joke. |
yea i try to avoid driving down there as much as possible, and also they've been taking a long ass time with the construction along patterson... so inconvenient to drive home from tennis -.- |
The workers are just milking our tax money. gg |
most poorly planned construction ever. remember that other thread about government workers and how 1 person does work while 10 others stand around? exactly what i see every morning. they didn't even bother smoothing out the roads for the past 2-3 weeks. all the cars driving through nanaimo go at 15-20km/h cause the potholes are so deep. what's even worse is when you're trying to cross grandview but the green light lasts for 5 fucking seconds. and if you have a bus in front of you stopping before grandview, gg, you just missed another green light. it's been a bit better since the summer ended, but during the summer it was AWFUL. |
our tax money at work.. lol, one working with 10 watching is the usual. |

They're doing sewer upgrades on the street. It's been going on since March and is scheduled to finish sometime next year. It seems like they're repaving the northbound stretch from around 29th Ave down to the Skytrain (the road is graded but not yet paved). The stretch from Nanaimo to about Grandview is terrible. They've cut out the lines to each house and did a very crappy job with filling them back in. There's a good 2" drop where they cut out the concrete for the sewer lines to the houses and didn't bother to fill it so it was level with the road. I'm just surprised nobody has complained to the city yet. Until the construction is done, I'm sticking with going north/south on Victoria Dr instead. I live right on Nanaimo, and I'm glad the construction in front of my house has come and gone. Those bastards start work at 7am sharp (while most people are still sleeping). Right at 7am, the excavator would be banging the ground busting up the concrete. Then they'd then finish work around 2:30-3:00. I always wondered why on earth they couldn't start one hour later and finish an hour later so that people could actually sleep until 8am. |
^ Hmm...I think the recent letter from the city mentioned that the project was supposed to be completed by October'ish. I did not expect it to spill into the new year. I gave up going down Nanaimo between 22nd and Grandview. No way in hell my car and scooter are gonna make it through that mess. :( |

I got that notice as well and it's suppose to be done by the end of October. I'm just glad it's done in my area Posted via RS Mobile |
i take nanaimo still, but just turn off onto grandview hwy. went through that mess once and never again. |
I drive by that section every like 2 days... and its a bi#$%... even in my soft suspension it still shakes... same with hastings from cassiar and up... i think they are doing it like 41st street and doing asphalt pavement.. after its really smooth.. i love driving on 41st HAHa so quiet and smooth |
