Anything with an eSATA connection will work.

However, without the PVR expander you will only be able to watch and record 1 channel at the same time (i.e. have to watch the channel you are recording) because the PVR expander has an extra tuner in it, allowing dual tuner capability. I find that to be quite useful, as often I record 2 channels and watch a recorded program at the same time.

Here's a cheap 2TB eSATA drive: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...a&promoid=1223

If I remember correctly, if you don't get the "expander" models, you'll have to disable the power save/sleep features on the drive as well before using them with your PVR.

lol.. don't be cheap and get the dcx3400.. pace is nothing but problem.. ie not recognizing the HDD, the box stop responding.. no pictures etc etc etc.. you might luck out and have a good one.. but chances are.. you have one that'll crap out on you in a few weeks.. i deal with too many of these model at shaw everyday ~

the dcx3400 is far superior to the pace summit + expander.. it's the same price too. only downside is the internal hdd is only 500gb vs the 1tb expander.. but then again u can use a expander/esata hdd with it. the only complaints so far about the box is sometimes when you activate the box for the first time. the guide doesn't come up for a few hrs.. but that problem seemed to be fixed.. i have 2 of those at home rite now and a pace summit.. i rarely touch my summit now lol.. just coz it's not reliable :P

fuck i wish i knew this info on friday.. i got stuck with a couple calls about the HDPVR's and why they are the same price @ $398

basically i know the dcx3400 is a new model but other than that.. thats about it

WTF $100 credit ?? i sometimes worry about giving a credit for a few months of service.. one customer lost their grandfathered package because their dct was replaced with another. so i ended up giving them 4 months cr for the whole package (additional 10 channels) @3.95/month and a month free movie central

lol.. when ppl call and ask u why the HDPVR are 398.. ask them why bell's HDPVR are like 500bux?

Btw.. those that are planning on buying a HDPVR.. i hold off til december.. a new STB is coming out with an expander for $300 and it have the ability to take the expander and plug it into a different one to watch.. something new.. i'm not sure if it's gonna be enabled on the older model that supports esata.. but i'm leaning toward yes.. but ya $300 is better than 400 :P

as for services.. my rule of thumb is never to go past 1 month.. coz it's really hard to explain to the damn audit team when they ask you.. and i guess it's easier for me to give out credits since i'm a tsr.. coz say like with internet.. i can easily prove whether they are lying or not.. and the $100 i mean it's an elderly.. what am i going to tell her? i'm sorry ur digital phone isn't working all the time.. go take another 100bux out of ur wallet and buy a prepaid phone just in case? i mean she is paying like $100bux per month.. so essentially that's just a 1 month free credit.. but if it means that the cx will stay with us even though her service isn't great.. but coz we care about our customers.. that's extra $$ for shaw that they mighta lost ~
