The Hockey Shop in Surrey has it. If you're in the area, it's superior to Cyclone in almost every way. I used to frequent Cyclone for sharpenings, but they became too inconsistent.

You have also probably not seen hundreds/thousands that they have done properly and well with no issues whatsoever.

I could say the same thing you said about Sportchek with the shop I get my skates done currently. Last time I was in, I asked for 5/8". He asked me if I was sure I didn't want 3/8". If I did, I would have asked for it. He then takes my skate and asks his buddy if the goalie wheel is working. After some back and forth about whether the wheel was/is working because it wasn't a few days ago, he clamps my skate and goes to town on it. Didn't dress the wheel, didn't check the balance of the hollow, finished my pair in about 90 seconds. First off, I'm not sure what goalie gets their skates cut at 5/8. Secondly, even if you're not going to bother dressing the wheel, at least check to make sure the hollow is level before you do your passes. I have 2 sharpens left, when I'm done I'm going to Sportchek for flat bottom from here on in, 10 sharpens for $30 and consistency in my experience is what I'd get at the shop I currently go to anyways.

If I had access to a machine, I'd do my skates myself with my Sportchek learned skills. Sure there were hacks back then that would occassionally sharpen and really had no business doing that, but it seems like that is something that happens EVERYWHERE.

i had it done... it was fuckin' AWESOME... lots of glide and lots of bite.

only problem is... i had it done at sportscheck by my buddy... but i dont' wanan always travel downtown to get it done...

anybody know of a place that does FBV and provides a consistent sharpening in the vancouver area?

and to the OP... i pretty much only goto cyclone on 49th and oak. 1/2 hallow here as well.

Another one here for The Hockey Shop on Surrey. I bought a season pass back in May and it's effective till next March. I don't remember the exact price but it was around $50-60.

$40 for regular sharpening and $80 for FBV
I just checked 2 days ago.

Don't understand why independent hockey shops charge more for the FBV, with the exception of the initial machine upgrade, the diamonds last 3-4 times longer than traditional diamonds, the wheel lasts longer because you can dress a wheel without grinding down as much stone and the whole process is easier, if anything shops are saving $ in the long run with the fbv....so don't understand why they charge almost double for the fbv sharpen.

10 fbv sharpens at sportchek for 30 bucks

Sorry to thread jack but i have a question about skates. I recently purchased a pair of vapor XII and realized the blade wasn't Stainless steel. Is it a big deal? Will it rust considerably faster?

not a big deal
Carbon steel is fine, the edge wont last as long, but as long as you keep the blade dry there shouldnt be any rusting issues.
Most entry level skates will have carbon steel as opposed to Stainless Steel

Thanks, I was worried about it rusting bad lol. Another dumb question, any chance you think sport mart will let me exchange these skates for a better pair even though its sharpened?
