Need opinions on IS300 vynil application

Hey everyone, I have a yellow 2001 IS300. I want to put black vynil on my roof and on my trunk to add some contrast to my paint scheme. I've seen this done on Newer accords and other sedans, it looks nice IMO.

The opinion I need is on the trunk. I'm not sure weather I want to completely cover the trunk with vynil or if I should just do the top. I also have a small spoiler. If i was to do only the top, I would just do the top part of the spoiler also.

I attached a couple pics of the car so you can have an idea of what I'm working with.

i think you should just do your roof, trunk might be a little over kill.. but thats just my opinion.. i thought your selling your car though?

Azriel_Strife 09-29-2010 05:23 PM

I am selling, but I want it to be more attractive to potential buyers. it's getting canned 2" in the nest week or so.

Dale to be honest if you want to sell the car don't bother doing all that work.

If you still want to do it anyways just do the roof if you do the trunk as well it will look too much like a skunk.

The more a car is modded the smaller the audience will be. That's why a stock car is generally easier to sell then a modded one.

I am making the car how I want it, so I can enjoy it more while I have it.

I'm in no hurry to sell it, it's just on the market is all. :)

the reason I want to do the trunk is because the rear window is black, and it flows nicely into the trunk. I thought it would look nice if the top of the trunk and spoiler were black also. Then the back part of the spoiler would still be yellow, so people behind the car wouldn't see that the trunk was black.

Agreed with Jimmy, dont bother sinking money into it if you plan on selling it

As I said before I'm no too concerned about selling it, I won't sell it for less than I want for it. In the meantime I would like to enjoy the car, and customize it how I would like it to be.

I appreciate the concerns, but I just want to tweak the car, it's my hobby.

sorry if i made your car look weird but is this how you want it to stand ?

Close, but no.

I just want the top portion (between the weather strips) to be black, essentially it would be black from the top corner of the windsheild to the top corner of the rear window. the a and b pillars will stay yellow. The top of the trunk itself will be black, and I'm just not sure about the rear of he trunk and spoiler also.

Much like this:

i donno if its just the pics, but your body kit doesn't seem to be matched all that well its a lot "lighter" while the car looks darker yellow

Azriel_Strife 09-30-2010 08:25 PM

It must be the lighting in the pic, they matched the paint really well, i cant see it and I checked for it when I got it from the shop.

Inaii 09-30-2010 09:13 PM

Don't do the trunk. Btw, awesome first pic ;)

illicitstylz 09-30-2010 09:29 PM

Sorry but I have to say it, should probably spend it on suspension, at least you can potentially bring your suspension set up onto your next car or at least sell it instead of the vinyl.

Azriel_Strife 09-30-2010 10:12 PM

Suspension is already taken care of.

Applying vinyl won't cost a fraction of what suspension would.

Why is everyone is telling me what I should do to my car, rather than just giving me input on whether I should do the top or the entire trunk?

Inaii 10-01-2010 04:15 PM

Because this is Revscene :p

I said top only

Azriel_Strife 10-01-2010 04:40 PM

I used the word only loosely. My bad. I was just referring to those that were saying I should spend money on components rather than visual stuff.

I thought my question was pretty direct, whole trunk or half trunk. Some people are saying I should leave the trunk alone. I may consider this.

Jgresch 10-01-2010 04:46 PM

you should paint the hood to match the car instead.....

Azriel_Strife 10-01-2010 04:49 PM

That would defeat the purpose of the carbon fiber hood. and completely remove any value the hood has. I'm actually wanting a stock hood.

!Aznboi128 10-01-2010 06:37 PM

paint the whole trunk

I don't want to paint it. I want to apply vinyl wrap to it.

Yes, I do.

It provides both cosmetic upgrades and weight reduction.

My point still stands, painting the hood would negate the cosmetic effect of the carbon fiber hood, and make it worthless for resale.

I'm sure I would get flamed hard for painting a CF hood. I would fully expect comments such as "what kind of an idiot paints a CF hood?" If I was dumb enough to do that.

Jgresch 10-01-2010 07:23 PM

painting a CF hood is not rice....sorry....
